HELP! Microsoft Word and a rogue line
I have a deadline and am trying to prepare a long document in MWord. I just noticed a rogue solid line in between paragraphs and I just can't seem to get rid of it. I can't click on it to make it disappear and when the "show formatting" option is on I get no clue as to why it is there.
Can anyone help a troubled soul?????
Thanks
PS I know this does not have anything to do with Brooklyn. Sorry. But I am a neighbor in need.

Try a couple of things.
1) Look at the page in print preview. Sometimes if you have a doc with lots of images, text boxes, etc rogue lines appear where they are not supposed to be. If the line is still there, try scrolling up to the next page then back down to make it disappear.
2) Check to make sure that the text immediately before the line is not in a text box with the bottom line showing (or the text following it is not in a box with the top line showing.
3) Print the page by itself to see if the line shows up then
4) Pray -

I am not sure what version of Word you are using but I think it has to do with the borders and shading as MB said. If you have the MS Word 07 go to
Page Layout
Page Setup
Click the Layout tab
Click the tab on the bottom Borders
Make sure borders and and page borders are set to none and apply to whole document that should take care of it.
I cannot remember where it was in the older versions of Word (I think under Tools) but it follows the same idea as above.
When all else fails you can cut and past the whole document into Notepade then cut and paste it back to Word. It essentially removes all formatting done in word. Bad thing is you have to reformat what you already did before. -

What Stacey said. It has to do with a page break.

thanks!!! It turns out that you can select a portion of text and then clear all the formatting from that highlighted text without losing all the formatting from the whole document.

Subject: Pesky microsoft lines
Hi
I had this problem too, tried the remove border approach and it unfortunately didnt work - in the end, I just did a "Select All" on the document, and selected Clear Formatting in the font box at the top left .
It got rid of the line. Yes I had to do all my formatting again but it took far less time than sitting there getting annoyed at that one line!
It may be that it was related to a number of drop caps I had, or an earlier line - I will never know. But the problem was resolved.
I suppose I could have tried doing the clear formatting on just one page.
