Internet Options
Hi fellow PHers. I have a new roommate and we have been looking into internet options in the area. In the past I have used an internet card through my wireless carrier but we would like to have internet installed. What are the options for the neighborhood? Is Cablevision the only way to go? I looked into Earthlink and am tempted to use that but would like to know if anyone else has it and what they think. I don't have cable and am not interested in getting it so what are my best options.
Thanks!
Thanks!

i have earthlink and have had it for years, and i love them. their customer service is great, etc., but here (i am on 17th st.) you can only get earthlink through time warner, so it is not very different from their service (or from roadrunner, i think) in terms of speed/quality, and i make my monthly payment to TW, even though earthlink is the isp. whatever. i don't have cable tv, either. when i was at bedford and sterling, i couldn't get earthlink because the only internet provider in that neighborhood was cablevision (who can't provide earthlink in nyc), and they were monsters. once they had my phone number they called me, like, nine or ten times a day every day trying to get me to sign on for other services. i blocked their number, and they started calling from a different one. their internet was fine, but i'd never deal with them again if i could help it (just saying).

We have ours through Verizon. I have no idea how it compares in cost but it is reliable. We haven't had a problem at all.

its usually dsl/fios from local tele co or cable from cable co.

cablevision is fine until you have some kind of problem, and then they'll literally never fix it no matter how hard you try. not enough options, sadly : (
