Storage Facilities — Brooklynian

Storage Facilities

Can anyone recommend a good storage facility in Brooklyn? I need to store some furniture for a few months. Also, any scams, pitfalls, companies to stay away from?

Thanks!

  • I THINK there is a big, yellow storage building on Underhill/Atlantic.
  • Moishe's is good. Maybe a tad pricey but they do offer insurance and are "BBB" certified.
  • Hmmm… try spam link removed. They are the best according to my sis' experience.

Mod note: This is a shill / spammer for a moving company that pretends to recommend a particular company, using different user names (but all from the same IP address in Bombay, India...take blake, for example...). Whee!

STAY AWAY from Moishe's. I stored some stuff at their Long Island City location for about four months in 2007. When I left the space, I had an extremely difficult time getting my security deposit returned. I got the run around for about two months before I received a refund check.

I also made a reservation for a room which turned out not to exist. The guys at the facility blamed it on the central office, and when I called to complain the central office guy asked me what my problem was. Luckily, the facility seemed to keep a few rooms "in reserve" for these types of things.

That is definitely a business with cash-flow problems. It made me think that if I had had a problem that would have required the insurance coverage, I might have had a hard time using it (like, although I was paying for the coverage, was Moishe's actually using the money to buy a policy, or just plowing it into operating costs.) Or, would Moishe's have put up so many roadblocks (receipt for each and every item, or no coverage) that the coverage would have been impossible to use.

    Just my $.02 on Moishe's.
  • I have had good luck with U. Santini. They will pick up and deliver as well.
  • We haven't done storage with U. Santini but we did our last move with them and they were really good.
  • Which mod used "Whee!?"

I used UHaul storage in Park Slope on 4th avenue and 6th ish a couple years ago. They have a decent system of booking your space online and then checking it out when you get there to make sure it's what you want. I think I had a 16x8 on the ground floor - no stairs! - for like $250/month.
  • There are two storage places on Atlantic, one on the south side of the street between just west of Vanderbuilt, and the other on the north side of the street near Grand. I know people that have used both with no complaints, although I haven't used either place personally.
