Sterling Place between Vanderbilt and Underhill?

Hi all,

My wife and I are looking at a place on Sterling Place between Vanderbilt and Underhill and are trying to get a better sense of the block and surroundings. Amenities, hidden gems, crime, neighbors, problems, etc. Any thoughts?

There's not much to say to so general a question except that yep, that's a very nice block. The good things around are fairly obvious as you look around (park, library, bars, food, cafes, including some new stuff this year), and the occasional craziness is perfectly typical of this section of Brooklyn--which is to say, kinda crazy, but fairly occasional.

+1 for a nice block. Obv. its mostly brownstones, which keeps the population density a little lower than some surrounding blocks, and keeps things a little quieter in turn. Speed bump also limits traffic noise a little (not the best block to race down on your motorcycle, etc). Neighbors are generally nice, and seem to care about the block and its appearance. No shortage of amenities...bars, restaurants, etc. on Vanderbilt, Underhill, and Washington all within a 5 minute walk.

Are you buying a place (wondering if you are going to be my next door neighbor)?

Thanks, everyone! Much appreciated. To answer the questions, we live in Brooklyn, closer to downtown, and are looking to buy in the Prospect Heights / Grand Army Plaza area. We had looked at some places closer to Washington but had some safety concerns.

...the brownstone streets west of Underhill are as nice as many of those in the slope, so you are making a good choice. The only difference is the schools (with PH not performing as well as PS).

While what Whynot points out is true - PS 9 has made lots of strides and is really good up and coming schoo. If you do have children you are zoned (I think) for PS 9 and one of the parents on my listserv linked to this article:
