Locksmith recommendations
Hello All
I haven't ever posted before, but regularly read this site and find it very useful. I recently had a TERRIBLE experience with a horrible, unprofessional locksmith. Our co-op is now looking to find a good, local, respectful locksmith that is interested in an entire building's business. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks very much

We've had very good experiences with Miguel Locksmith on 4th near Bergen.

I had one experience positive experience with All American Locksmith on Flatbush.

I've had a couple of horrendous experiences with All American Locksmith on Flatbush -- they will give you one price quote when trying to get the job and then another, much higher one once the lock is installed and the keys are in their hands. Do NOT use them.

So noted. Like I said, my experience was limited. -

Locksmiths cancel jobs based if they can earn more $ elsewhere at the moment.
for example, if they have a scheduled 2:00 appointment that will earn them $150, they will not show up if they get a "emergency call" that will earn them $300.
This makes them annoying. ...but they do not work in a field that rewards them for reliability.
People often only need locks installed once, repeat customers aren't real valued. -

Chris, the owner of Flatubush Hardware just did a great job for my building- he came almost immediately, charged a reasonable amount, and he really seemed to care about locks. Call him at 718-857-8688.

Yes, I second Flatbush Hardware. They've been great, reliable and reasonable. Sorry I forgot to mention them the first time I posted.

Is Flatbush Hardware on the Park Slope side of the Avenue, or the PH side? -

we've used all-security and had good luck with them:
all-security
1241 prospect ave
718-435-9055
do not by any means ever use abco lock and door.
and when you call a locksmith who just answers "locksmith" or something like that, ask first who and where they are and make sure they're the people you intended to call. i'm not sure how it happened, maybe some locksmiths use a central answering service, but we have thought we were calling one place and somehow gotten the above-mentioned rip-off artists. -

Flatbush Hardware is on the Prospect Heights side, near Haifa grocery, just below St. Marks Ave.

Oh yeah, I know where that is now. I have a hard time picturing the businesses that are on those blocks. Thanks! -

Happy birthday, locksmith thread!
I pulled up this thread because I was looking for a locksmith this week. You're all correct: Chris at Flatbush Hardware was great. I scheduled an appointment, he came on schedule, was pretty cheerful about his work, and cleaned up after himself. He repaired one lock and put a new cylinder in another. It was about two hours work (including a run back to the store for parts) for $79.
Howdy, Stranger!
