Sleazy Mailer Attacking Letitia James — Brooklynian

Sleazy Mailer Attacking Letitia James

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I wrote this in response to receipt of a particularly sleazy mailer from the Atlantic Yards candidate in the City Council race, attacking Letitia James

Letitia James herself offered a very measured statement in response to the mailer today:

  • There's also discussion on it at NY Times' The Local. See
    http://fort-greene.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/10/when-candidates-attack/?apage=2#comments

I find Hunley-Adossa's mailers particularly ironic because her campaign manager, Musa Moore, is closely connected to Clarence Norman, the head of the Brooklyn Democrats who ended up in jail on multiple corruption charges. What does it say that Moore, reported to be Clarence Norman's "bag man," is now attacking his own cronies?

Is this what Hunley-Adossa means by her campaign slogan of "Building Bridges Not Walls"?

There's another interesting article on her in The Local. Apparently, her idea of giving to the community means getting air conditioners for her building on the public dime. See

  • Is it true that Letitia James moved to the district in order to get elected?

BTW, why all the shock? It's like complaining that football is violent. In politics, sleaze is the name of the game.
  • Unrelated, but before I read this I came home to a Hunley-Adossa card hung on my doorknob - there was one on every door in the bldg. t's one thing to hang something on a house, but getting access and trespassing in a building? I'm not into it when it's IDT or various religious folks either.. maybe I'm being over the top but it just rubbed me the wrong way (and she's the only candidate I've ever gotten this from).
  • Subject: Vote for SOmeone WHo Ignores Will of the Public?

If i were old enough to vote, I would not vote for the candidate who hung so many flyers on all my doorknobs--the very doors that display the no flyers symbol. Clearly she has no respect for the will of the people. (Even decorated my gaslight with them!)
  • Between the robocalls and the endless mailers (which we get in duplicate) I'm just about ready to turn in my voter card. Tuesday can't end soon enough!
  • I am very much in favor of fliering and most of the ways that campaigns try to get out the word. Fer crying out loud, we have no political club in Prospect Heights, so how are potential elected officials supposed to get in touch with us? If that's the price to pay for democracy, I'm all for it.

BUT! Putting posters on street polls is illegal. Campaigns can be fined for doing it, and Hunley-Adossa just plastered Vanderbilt. Call 311 to complain, because the Department of Sanitation will take them down.

By the way, four years ago I worked with the Norman Siegel campaign. He NEVER puts signs up on public property. Not only that, but when I took down some signs, he chastised me. It's considered bad form for one campaign to take down the signs of another campaign, though it happens a lot. Someone from one of the other campaigns saw me take down their signs, and they nearly beat me up, so be careful.
