Ah yes, that bastion of hard-hitting journalism!

Yeah, he's getting people fired, having funds removed, census taken away etc etc. What's that bitter b*tch er Dowd done? ahahaha
Having his advertisers cancel on him...

will you let eggcream know when the ACORN obsession is history, so s/he can move on to the next Republican boogeyman?
  • Was this the Glenn Beck video you were talking about eggcream?

  • hitokiri wrote: [quote=Flo]Sorry Eggcream. Not following it. Seems unimportant to me. How many days is it gonna make the cover of The Post and how ridiculous was the picture in Post today? I am bored by this story already, but predict that many a people have their halloween costumes picked out for this year because of it.
so a group that tell people how to avoid taxes, tells how to illegally gain housing and does potential voter fraud doesnt interest you?

    I see...

Well....let's see are we talking about accountants now or republicans? :) I hear they are going to raise taxes in the Caymens anyway. I certainly think this has been embarassing for Acorn, but like Boy G said, I'm not sure that advising pimps and hookers is one of Acorn's specialties. Not the story of the day as far as I'm concerned. That's an opinion. Eggcream asked if we were following the story and I answered.

Yeah, I'm all about the truth. Sad.
  • "Two kids with a video camera and their grandmother's chinchilla coat uncover ACORN's corruption.

Jon Stewart to state-run media: "You mean to tell me that two kids from the cast of High School Musical III broke this story with a video camera and their grandmother's chinchilla coat and you've got nothing?"

Here is the link to the video in California where not only does the ACORN woman, again, have no problem with child prostitution and screwing taxpayers, she admits to killing her ex abusive husband and laying the groundwork to do so.

This website has all the up to date ACORN scandals.

I thought you were all about the truth. The police have already investigated and dismissed that story. But I guess that won't stop the crazy right from repeating it. If they do it enough, some people will believe it.

See what happens when you rely on Fox for News? You get lies.
  • she admits to killing her ex abusive husband and laying the groundwork to do so.
    LOL

    truth!
  • Wait a minute. These kids went to 5 different locations only and were advised by 5 ACORN reps as to how to conceal money made through prostitution, purchase a house by lying about their business, told to bury money in a tin in the back yard so the governement can't find and, and.....most outrageous of all, discussed how to bring girls from El Salvador between the ages of 12-15 years old to be hookers. The San Diego ACORN advisor told them he had people in Tiajuana that could help get them over the boarder without trouble and has done it before!!!

Now how can anyone possibly justify what happened?? There should be some major investigations (which are now underway) and all public funding should be completely stopped.

I'm all for people helping those in need, and the intent of this group probaly started out well, but I can't help but wonder if this was uncovered by a couple of kids, what else has gone on that no one knows about yet??

Huh, says the investigation is still ongoing. Me thinks that it's not closed then.

Nice to know though that you and your fellow libs support underage child prostitution.

Sadly, Carnivore and the other posters don't seem to think child prostitution is a big deal.
  • Another straw man, eggcream?

No one said that. What we are saying is that the actions of a few individuals doesn't counteract the fact that the organization as a whole has done a lot of good. The individuals need to be punished. You know, like how the entire Catholic Church isn't a child molesting organization.
  • Seriously, this is indeed a clear case of misdeeds and inappropriate behavior but anyone that feels that Obama is to blame for this could be akin to Chicken Little.

People, the sky is not falling.
  • according to fox news and limbaugh, obama IS acorn. van jones IS acorn. there is no distinction.

Anyone remember the Food King lawsuit against ABC? Undercover reporters were investigating claims of sanitation issues at the supermarket chain. Reporters went to work for the chain, wore hidden cameras and found evidence that there were sanitation issues at the chain. Guess what Food King did when they learned of the impending broadcast? They filed a lawsuit. I forget the exact legal arguments, but I think ABC was originally fined something to the tune of 5 million for trespass and fraud. (Reporters did not identify themselves as reporters when they were hired by the food chain.) I think that fine was eventually reduced to something very nominal, but I bet it cost ABC a bundle in lawyer fees anyway.

Not saying I think ACORN ought to go the old corporate way...just wondering if any of the supporters of the conservative activist and his pimp dressing ways have any opinions about that old Food King lawsuit. I'd bet good money that the Cato Institute and other conservative think tanks fully supported Food King's side on that one.

It's obvious that ACORN's got some problems with who they hire. And like Food King, after the ABC report, it looks like they lost some income already.

Voter fraud, corruption, and a whole lot more. The light has been shown and the rats are scurrying. Since President Obama said ACORN will have a seat at his table his involvement with them should be scrutinized as well.

obama has a history with ACORN.

no one denies the "history." it's the conclusions that are drawn from that "history" that are in question.

    to quote your boy Rush:

"Obama is Acorn. Obama is Van Jones. Obama is racism."

    from today's show
  • I think this NYT piece did a good job of summing up the ACORN Category 5 in a demitasse.

The next installment in the ACORN chronicles:
Police say a worker with the activist group ACORN who was caught on video giving advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute had reported the incident to authorities.

National City police said Monday that Juan Carlos Vera contacted his cousin, a police detective, to get advice on what to with information on possible human smuggling.

Vera was secretly filmed on Aug. 18 as part of a young couple’s high-profile expose.

Police say he contacted law enforcement two days later. The detective consulted another police official who served on a federal human smuggling task force, who said he needed more details.

The ACORN employee responded several days later and explained that the information he received was not true and he had been duped.
So, he plays along with them, then contacts the police, by the time they get in touch with him he learns it was a hoax, and a month later the wingnuts post the video as if he really was trafficking in humans. Awesome.

    It gets better:
    Vera was fired on Thursday.
I’m sure we’ll hear all about this at Breitbart and the cable news. USA! USA! USA!

You really don't think the fact that these stings happened at 5 locations doesn't warrant some kind of further investigation?

If one Catholic priest turns out to be a child molester, yea. Punish the individual. If victim after victim keep coming out with substantiated claims, eff that, it's time to investigate!

I don't want to draw conclusions or make assumptions about people, but somehow if there were a wager to be placed to say the ppl here backpedaling and making excuses for ACORN were, not even a year ago, looking for any conceivable reason to impeach Bush & Cheney, I would take it wholeheartedly.

You have a display of gross misconduct and poor ethics shown 5 times at various locations around the country at a publicly funded and controlled organization. How can that not be indicative of a widespread problem in need of investigation????
  • what do you think an investigation is going to turn up? ACORN secretly exists to give tax advice to pimps?
  • Boygabriel wrote: what do you think an investigation is going to turn up? ACORN secretly exists to give tax advice to pimps?
Well the first obvious thing I would look for is personal income tax evasion among ACORN employees.
  • that seems proportionate to the media attention and general acrimony directed their way.

    good work media!
  • ....I'm waiting for the folks against Atlantic Yards to point out ACORN endorsed the porject, and this is yet another reason it should not happen.
