any salon recommendations in the nabe for a simple cut for long hair less than $80?

I've seen Shlomy at Salon Biton on Vanderbilt a couple of times. I have a straight angled bob: $60. I'll give the place a mixed review.

I'm not sure that I'm going back the next time that I need a cut. The cut was nice--no complaints, and I did like that this salon is about a five minute walk from my apartment (and that's why I went back a second time). The salon is a really intense environment, however, not at all relaxing. I think that I'm looking for a different type of experience. If you're in the Salon Biton inner circle, you get all the time in the world. If you're not (and I apparently am not) you have about 3 minutes of Shlomy's attention. He spends the rest of the time chatting w/everybody else, answering the phone, and opening the door. Meanwhile he's hacking at your head w/some scissors.

He's also not open on Saturdays, and because of that weekday afternoon/evening appointments are very hard to get.

Subject: Salon Harmony on 7th Avenue

Hi. Salon Harmony on 7th Avenue, tell them what you want, or better yet, go in person and flat out ask. The father is generally more basic but nic and his two sons are both gifted.
If it is a basic cut, the dad might do it but if you really want it chopped/styled it will be higher.
Generally a nice atmosphere although the music is a bit too loud (but I am older). It is stylish and yet a neighborhood place and not outrageous.

I get my haircut at Biton, and I've found it to be a great experience. Sure, he's intense, but if you engage him, he's all yours. Also, he's very good at giving a cut.

It's very homey (no snootiness), cute and comfortable. And it's inexpensive ($45-ish). If you go, stop by Jack the Horse Tavern around the corner for a well-made cocktail or some amazing comfort food.

I ended up seeing Shlomy by chance. I was walking by and didn't notice the name of the salon, just walked in and asked if I could get a quick cut. He fit me in between a woman getting her hair colored and trimmed, and an appointment. It wasn't until I was in the chair and saw the name on the mirror that I realized I had inadvertently used the recommendation from this board. Well I can understand the mixed reviews. He is intense. and he cut off a lot more than I wanted. BUT it is a great cut and I do think it is a good change. Maybe I'll go back.

I've used Andrea Palumbos for years. She lives in Prospect Hts. and will do house calls. She cut my wife's hair for our wedding and she looked amazing!
