found: dumped friendly young female cat...
A lovely, sweet, super-friendly kitty has been turned out of her home in Ditmas Park. Her "owner" put her out on the fire escape, 2 floors above ground level, and the kitty made it down to the yard.
This poor girl has been spending her time trying to get people's attention, scrounging for food, and lurking on the fringes of a feral colony that is evidently living in the courtyard of this apartment building.
I just found out about this situation last night and am working with a couple who live in the building to try and rescue this girl and find her a foster home so that we can get her tested, vaccinated, etc. They spoke with the woman who dumped the kitty and it's pretty clear that it's a bad situation and there's no way this cat can go back there, even if the woman was willing to take her back (which she's not.)
Pictures to come later today. It sounds like she is around 5 months old, and she is affectionate, playful, and loves to be held - she is definitely a house cat, and she doesn't know how to survive outside.
We are hoping to get her before she gets pregnant or ends up in a scrap with another cat or worse...there is a busy street right in front of the building.
The couple cannot take her in themselves, but they wish to help and are willing to pay for her to be vetted and also to contribute food and litter to anyone who would be willing to foster this girl. So far she has been sticking around the building. They've been feeding her, but she has to contend with the other ferals (who seem to be ear-tipped) for the food.
If we can find anyone willing to temporarily put her up in a bathroom or bedroom, separated from any other household cats, I can line up an FIV/FeLV test and can vaccinate her so that we can move forward with another home.
Most importantly, we just want to get this sweet girl off the street as quickly as possible, before she leaves the area and before anything happens to her, and we need to be able to bring her somewhere. I am full up myself, as are most of my foster network. Can anyone help, even for just several days or a week? She's a nearly all black kitty and with Halloween coming up and how friendly she is with people, it's even more important that we get her to safety soon.
I will post pictures later today. In the meantime, if anyone is willing to help or if you just have some questions and want to discuss it, please feel free to pm me or call me at 917-701-0968. THANK YOU!

Did you find a temporary home yet?
DM me if you did not. -
I am very happy to announce that this incredibly sweet girl is OFF THE STREETS!
She is still in need of a long-term foster home or adoptive home, but the good news is that the couple managed to rescue her on Thursday 9/24, and we were able to get her fully vetted with the ASPCA the very next day. She is NEGATIVE for FIV and FeLV, she was spayed, and she received all vaccinations, as well as a dose of Revolution.
We are calling her Molasses (because she is as sweet as...!)
This healthy girl is SO happy to be safe and indoors. She is young - about a year old, petite, and super affectionate. She loves to be held and will head butt your hand to get you to pet her. Molasses is gentle, loving, litter-box trained, and lap-ready! All she needs now is a home and someone to love her.
Right now she is in a short-term foster home, but we really need to move her on ASAP. I want to avoid shuffling her from foster home to foster home (although she is just so grateful to be off the streets I don't think she'd even mind.) I would love to find either a longer-term foster home for her, or a permanent adopter for her (and I'd be willing to foster-to-adopt to see if it's a good fit for you both.)
Molasses would make a fine single cat, and we think she'd also do well with other cats. If you are interested in meeting her or have any questions, please contact me at 917-701-0968 or PM me. Thanks! -
So cute and sweet, will sticky for you!
-
Thank you! She is a real peach and will make someone extremely happy!
-
Quick update - Molasses is doing well in her foster home, but really hopes to find a permanent home soon since her foster home is, of course, temporary!
She is still available for adoption and eager to be loved! -
Is sweet Molasses still up for adoption, please update :-)
-
Molasses is in a foster-to-adopt situation with a lovely family - cross your fingers that it works out! They have a 3 year old and an 8 month old baby and so far she seems to be very affectionate and gentle with them both. Go Molasses!

Fingers crossed!
Howdy, Stranger!
