Cablevision Internet speed very slow this weekend

Has anyone else had super-slow Internet access this weekend? Mine has been snail paced, with many connections timing out, other times pages not loading fully, etc. I'd call them, but I know I'll get stuck with some first-tier tech support rep who will tell me to unplug my modem...

  • yea-- this weekend was pretty bad. But to be honest Cablevision for the past month has been timing out quite often.
  • Here's the consolidated Optonline troubles thread -

My experience is that most people are seeing advertised speeds at off-peak times but are getting jammed up when people are home on the evenings and weekends. Here's my advice on the matter to another poster -

If so, you could see some benefit from some wiring troubleshooting... that being said, I really think that they have the "regular" servers over-committed in this area.

I think that, if several people were to cooperate, that you could make enough noise to get the issue addressed. What I would do is test and document the DL speeds several times over the course of an evening, as the off-peak hours transition in to the peak usage hours. I'm sure that you'll see a steady, predictable, STEEP dip from 5PM through 9PM. Have several people compile a few days worth of data and start giving hell.
  • I'm actually on ship w/ this idea. Seems like calling and speaking to them rarely gets anything done.
  • I've been having crazy slow downs with Time Warner recently too. I definitely want to try this speedtest at home and see what's going on.

Recently when I called about downgrading my cable service ( too many channels of crap ) , they offered me an upgraded internet service and mentioned data cap rates , which I thought had not gone through in NYC.

If that is the case, I fear maybe I hit my data limit and now they are bottle necking my service? Not sure what else it is unless I need a new cable modem.

    Either way, it's frustrating.
