Greyhound advice?

just be sure to ask the adoption agency to pair you with a dog that's been tested around cats. some greyhounds aren't a safe match with them. i've never owned one but have worked with many, and i think they're lovely. good luck!

We don't have a greyhound, but we adopted a generic black dog from North Shore Animal League. She's a wonderful running companion and an all round sweetest dog ever. I highly recommend North Shore if you want to adopt.

and by the way, that's the neighbor dog, not ours, I just liked the photo

I see lots of folks jogging/biking/skating with dogs in the park, but I don't think one of them has been a greyhound. I do not know for sure, but I have heard that they only really run for a short time in their lives. I know plenty of people love their GH's, but if you really want a running companion, many breeds/mixes can make great running partners.
And congrats in advance on adopting a dog, whatever dog it may be

PM me please, I have a lot of experience with greyhounds and have owned many of them. There are many misconceptions about the breed.
They love running and benefit from regular "road work".
anyway, PM me and I can give you a lot of information, thanks -
My husband and I adopted a greyhound 2 weeks ago from Greyhound Friends of NJ. We have 2 cats as well. After a couple days of adjustment, our grey and the cats get along just fine.
About the running, my husband and I are not runners, but we do walk our dog for an hour to an hour and a half at a time at a leisurely pace. I've been told that greys are not really running companions, and you need to keep in mind that their races only last for 30 seconds or so. However, it seems that southofsouth might be able to give you more insight on that.
Feel free to PM me for more info. We'd be happy to meet you with our dog sometime. -
southofsouth is a good resource. I cared for my god-daugter's greyhound (ex-track dog) for over a year and found her to be great in general. She got along well with my little canine monsters (:-)) and was super mellow. Despite their racing heritage they are not high energy dogs & in the house a real couch potatoes. Not barkers either. Good luck.

Thanks, everyone! Southofsouth, I sent you a message.

What I heard about them not being great running companions was about retired racers, who I'm guessing had put lots of strain on their bodies early in life but I've never had one and each dog is different.
I hope we get to see a picture of your new pup when you get it!
Kevin, your avatar pic is so sweet.
