Cooper park area safety??

Hi,
My daughter is looking to rent an apt with some recent college grad friends on Olive St right across from Cooper Park. We have no idea about Brooklyn neighborhoods. Can anyone help me with an idea on the relative safety of this area.? She would be walking home from the Graham stop on the L train. I already am aware of the homeless shelter on Skillman and the projects just a few blocks away. Thanks for any advice you can give based on your experiences.

Overall, this is a safe area. It's a bit deserted at night beyond Bushwick Avenue, but, again, nothing that should deter her from moving there. Of course, she should exercise the usual big city caution (e.g. remove iPod after exiting train, don't chat on cell phone in the street, stay in groups if drinking, etc.).
