  • Honestly, Target may be your best bet. It's crafty purchases that make me miss the suburbs -- I miss ACMoore and Michaels like crazy...
  • There is a big school/teaching/craft supply place on Livingston called Barclay's. They might have it also.

xlizellx - as a teacher, you may enjoy this store.
  • You might try my favorite store in the world: Save on Fifth.

Or, very close to home: Natural Land, Park Heights Stationers, and/or Kings or Duane Reade. I'm always surprised at the breadth of NL's inventory, and they might have some Rit dye behind the register. You might find some Crayola stuff at either of the two pharmacies or at the stationery store on 7th and Flatbush, Park Heights Stationers.
  • Palma Chemists on 7th and Garfield has Tintex dye, it's the only place I've been able to find it since Supersavers closed.

I love that store - but it is a bit overpriced for some items. I order construction paper, etc. from Quill because it's like half the price.
  • Party City has had both inthe past

For those of you who miss Micahels there is a new one in Manhattan at 808 Columbus Avenue If yo go on to the web site they have coupons every week.
  • The King's pharmacy on Flatbush has fabric dye in packets on the end cap above the shoe polish, all the way to the left as you come in. It might not be RIT, though.

Fiber Notion on Union & 7th might have dye.
  • there is also the art supply store on 7th avenue and 16(?) that has fabric die
  • Park Heights Stationers def has the Model Magic and Kings has the dye.

Fiber Notion doesn't sell dye. Also, I find the woman who owns the store to have a bit of a 'tude. It's like "Oh, you want to buy something? But, that means that I actually have to work to get it to you." Lucky (for her) that her husband is a lot more customer-service oriented. I needed to buy something like 35 yards of ribbon for wedding favors, and I felt like he had to convince her that it was a good idea to sell me that much of it (they had plenty in stock).
  • Thanks guys!

    You are all so helpful.

i've had mixed experiences with her. some like this -- they'd have gotten more of my money by now if they didn't have a $25 minimum on credit cards -- and some times when she's special-ordered a thread color, encouraged me to bring my project to show it off, and so on.

i wish Brooklyn General were closer.

You and me both. I feel like we should know each other, if we're both that crafty.
  • Subject: Dye at Fiber Notion

Fiber Notion carries minimum colors of Dylon Dyes. The only 35 yd ribbon available on short notice is a natural cotton twill tape. As I recall the ribbon mentioned was less than 20 yards and the buyer did not want to place a special order. We gladly accept credit cards for minimum $20. Thank you for your comments.

But you had it all in stock that day, and I never heard mention of a "special order." What's the difference if you sell 35 yards to 1 person or 3.5 yards to 10?

Visa and MasterCard both prohibit merchants from setting minimum credit card purchase amounts as part of their contracts. I understand why small businesses set these minimums, but I would suggest not admitting to them on the internet.
  • We'll happily sell you 35 yds of ribbon if its in stock. I'll even discount it 10% since you're buying bulk quantity.
  • Please stop by the store. Would love to discuss further.
  • How about the scruffy little art supply place on Fifth Ave, near Berkeley?
I don't even know what Model Magic is, but it seems like they'd sell it there.

The peeps at Brooklyn General couldn't be nicer btw . . .
