Anyone else just lose your basic channels?

Nertz! Just lost my basic tv channels. As of tonight, every single station says I need a cable box to view.
Lame.

  • you mean to say you still have/had VHF reception? VHF reception was pretty crappy in the area. Free OTA DTV is so much better.

If you mean to say you have basic cable without a box, why pay if you can get free crystal clear OTA DTV and a little Hulu on the side?
  • i think at some point, and maybe today was the day, if you were a cable customer you had to switch your box to digital if you didn't already have one.
  • Menh.
Bunch of shiza on the weapon of mass distraction anyways...
  • Ha, actually I find Brooklynian massively more distracting than watching one show a week in realtime.

Have had perfectly good reception in the neighborhood for over 10 years (with an inactive coax cable), so obvs it has something to do with the transition to digital. just ninjavideo.net from now on I guess.
  • If you have a new tv switch to digital and tell it to rescan. If you don't go to radio shack or best buy and pick up a DTV converter box and you should end up with a ton of channels.
  • I helped the DOC and CEA organize some of their DTV conversion campaign last year. If you haven't made the transition to DTV from analog/over the air TV, this site should answer most of your questions http://www.dtv.gov/ Otherwise, if you have cable/satilite/hdtv you should be ok; just ask your tv service provider if you're having problems.
