Any stories of Guyana expats?

Is it total folly to think about moving to Guyana? Has anybody here got a story about moving there or about a friend that has moved there? This neighborhood is getting expensive and I am getting desperate.

  • Well, it depends, doesn't it. A guy I worked with retired back home to Guyana...he spent a few decades getting a house ready first and he had a lot of ties there...he was happy. So, YES you can go back home, it can be a good transition even when you have a life you like here.
    :D
  • how many ties do people in guyana need?
  • neckties? at least 5.
  • I guess the answer is no.
  • I love Guyana - amazing country! I would live there in a heartbeat if I could.
  • I work with a lot of people from Guyana. They speak fondly of it, but note that it's a poor country with limited opportunities (hence, their long-term presence in the US). Most people I know who've elected to return fall into one category: retirees with a pension from NYC. You should take a trip, if you haven't already done so - beautiful country.
