Indian restaurant coming soon to Washington Ave.

i think that coming soon banner has been there for months.

It had been a "COMING SOON" juice bar for almost a year, and now they're getting somewhere with the new Indian Restaurant direction. So, it's on. I still like India Place on Vanderbilt a lot though.

There are no good Indian restaurants in Brooklyn. I hope this will be an exception, but I'm not optimistic.

Yeah, what's up with that? I feel like I can get better curry from the two-bit takeout counter on 29th Street than I can from most of the Indian places near here. Joy is pretty good, though.

There's a total dive of a take-away place in Manhattan in an alleyway between Broadway and Crosby, just south of Houston. It's about as wide as a doorway. If you happen upon it one day, stop in. Food's good.

I feel like there should be a good Indian place or two in Flatbush.

It's got to be the same place. I mean, that place is a hole and the food is easily better than what the Indian restaurants here are pulling off. It's one food area where Brooklyn has yet to impress me.

Besides Jackson Heights (which I haven't sufficiently explored) where else is the Indian food good? New Jersey?

The Chinese food issue is an extremely local problem. You can get superb Chinese food within the confines of Brooklyn with a short trip to Sunset Park. But I'm not aware of any good Indian anywhere in the borough. I used to think Joy was ok a few years ago, but then they went way downhill. I haven't been back in over a year. Have they gotten better again?

I have been ordering from Joy for five years, and have never noticed any dip in quality. But then, I do usually order the same few Indian staples (chicken tikka masaala, chicken madras, saag paneer, mattar paneer, etc.).

It's true that there's good Chinese food in other parts of Brooklyn. But I would kill for a decent delivery option around here--it's just odd to me that the local Chinese place five minutes from where I grew up in the Boston suburbs is much better than anything in the Park Slope area.

I agree. Terrible five years ago and still just as terrible now.

i've been there too. a serendipitous discovery. i'd forgotten exactly where it was, so thanks for the reminder.

Bombay Massala on Franklin is great We usually do take-out, but when you eat in, you can sit in the back garden (nice!), get all-you-can-eat roti and rice (rather than paying for roti with take-out), and they usually give a complimentary dessert or pudding at the end of the meal. In regard to Chinese --
They aren't GREAT, but the new-ish Jay's Wong Chinese on Franklin at Park is much better than most in the area. FRESH veggies were chopped and cooked for my order and it wasn't overly oily or sauce-y. It was still take-out chinese-y, but it was much more fresh and better than any I've had in the area.

Totally agree with both of these reviews. I was very surprised by the quality of the food at J's. They're now my stand by for when I'm too lazy to steam my own veggies and make brown rice.

Joy is super good. And if you consider the price I bet you can count on one hand the number of better Indian spots in all of Brooklyn and Manhattan. I aint even gonna act like I know whatsup in Queens, but the best spots gotta be up there.

I think Kinara's in Ft. Greene is good, If you can talk them into delivering all the way to ph. actually even if you can't, i still think they're good.

There is no Indian community here in Brooklyn, correct? That's the crux of the problem. Both Lexington and Jackson Heights serve the community.
