History Tours or Sights?

So today I finally went on the tour of the world's oldest subway tunnel. In 1844 a tunnel was built under Atlantic Avenue. It was the first subway tunnel every built, but 70 years later it was supposedly filled in and was "lost". People began hunting for it again in the mid 1900s and it wasn't found until 1980. The guy who found it now gives tours once a month. You climb down a manhole at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Court Street. It was really awesome. If you haven't gone, I really recommend it.

That said, what history tours/places have you been to that you would recommend? I plan to get to Greenwood Cemetery this Spring for a tour since I hear it's a beautiful place with lots of history.

I'd love to hear what you'd recommend checking out now that the weather is nicer and all.
Thanks!

  • Go to Greenwood on Memorial Day they do a nice concert in the cemetery, weird but fun. You can also look for the parrots there.
  • the working harbor committee hosts a variety of unusual harbor tours.

  • I am interested also and would like to receive posts. I have always wanted to go on a tour of Prospect Park. Went to GreenWood for Memorial Day last year. It was a "nice thing to do." Many locals, Marty (of course) and a local orchestra. Bring your own food although there are beverages and dogs, etc.
