English male looking for Sheepshead Bay friendship.

Hello,
I'm Darren from England. I'm hoping to make contact and form a friendship with someone from the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn.
I'll explain. I found this area by accident whilst searching random places on Google Street View. I was fascinated by this area immediately. I can't really explain why at all. I think it's because S 16th St looks so British. I mean it does not look the way I percieved American streets to look after years of US TV and films. I had no idea you had "terraced" houses that look identical to ours for example. Think you call them "duplex" over there??
I've "travelled" round the area so many times on my pc now, that I feel I've actually been there and know my way around. It looks such a nice "homely" area and I would love to visit it for real soon. I've read it is a high crime area though. Is this true? It does not bother me at all. I've heard they even play cricket in the area too!!
The area of shops at the end of S 16th Street looks fascinating in a way that UK shopping areas don't. I imagine the area to be "close knit", vibrant, multi-cultural and "alive". I bet everyone knows each other too!
All in all, I cant really explain my interest better than this. Odd I know, but I've never been attracted to touristy parts of the world or cities. I like to go off the beaten path.
I'm a 43 year old white male, non-smoker, very intelligent and well read and individualistic. I don't conform to negative Uk stereotypes( drinking heavily,stuck-up,pompous etc) although my teeth are not the best in the world(they are not rotten but at the moment I do have 2 missing which I lost playing Rugby!!). I hope this doesn't put anyone off! I am fairly shy and quiet which apparently will not be appreciated by NY people??
I would like to hear from anyone,male or female of any race religionor political view, who does not judge others for having different views to their own. If you're a Dr.Who fan, that will be an added bonus!

Well, Darren, Sheepshead Bay is a curious amalgam of Brooklyn professional fishermen (many of Italian ancestry), party boat captains, Ukrainian & Russian nightclubs (& all that goes with them), tourists looking for cheap caviar (not likely!), retirees, and drivers trying to find their way from the traffic jams on the Belt Parkway. Yep, it's alive & multi-culti! But not really close-knit in the sense that the varied layers don't always interact much. Each layer, however, is close knit. It's very "Brooklyn" in its quirky mix and quite distinctive.

PS I am not single & don't live in Sheepshead Bay.

Hi Darren

Like you I am a 43 y.o. male as well. I married a british girl and we both live very close to sheepshead (the area is called madison). I am not russian, ukrainian ...neither am I a fisherman. I am a very successful health care professional who can afford to live anywhere but chose this area due to its very "brooklyn feel". Additionally you can't find a brownstone in park slope with a 2 car garage often.
