closely matches what I wrote on June 14th here: http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=58021
More likely we are all using variants of the one eye-witness account. Assuming Alec lives on Butler, he's probably the neighbor I talked to after the dumpster fire last year before posting the description. Guess my mention of dreadlocks was wrong though.

Maybe off topic, but what was up with all the fire trucks on St Johns btwn Plaza and Underhill last night around 11:30p?
  • The guy in my story had blondish grungy curly hair (either locks or dreads), about shoulder length.

...can't help you on last night.
  • Its a bit ironic to me that the tree branch breaker in CH had neighbors so up in arms that they 1) stopped the police to provide his description; 2) called and emailed local legislators to alert them to the problem; 3) reached out to other third parties (parks dept. & mental health agencies) to try and get some intervention and yet everyone seems a bit nonplused about the arsonist. Even though he might actually have destroyed personal property in the neighborhood and endangered lives.

I'm just surprised how matter-of-fact everyone appears to be about this kid and his activities.
  • unlike tree branch breaker, I don't think anyone has ever seen this kid in the act.

....he just seems to be around.

But I think he will receive the attention he deserves if he keeps this up. Lots of folks on the lookout for him.

I agree, he is far more dangerous than tree branch breaker. The only thing that seems to prevent him from being arrested is that he is a little sneaky about it, and doesn't do it in front of everyone (unlike tree branch breaker).

He also doesn't seem to do it everyday. (yet?)

....remember Iphone thief? He did it everyday in the same 4 blocks area until he got caught. And was reportedly even wearing his signature jacket at the time of the arrest.

Blond kid seems a little harder to catch.....
  • I just posted in the CH forum a message about a garbage can fire in North Crown Heights at the corner of Dean and Nostrand. I have no idea who is responsible, but am going to keep my eyes open and hope others on our end will to.

Tree branch breakers and fire starters - what in the hell?????

I say go for the little arsonist jerk. ;)

I agree it is way more dangerous. The tree branch dude was obnoxious and people felt like he was attacking "their" property. I guess people don't feel the same civic pride in their dumpsters as they do in their trees.
