I know it's still the middle of July, but the back-to-school sales have started already.

As a teacher, I have to buy all of my stuff for my classroom myself. I try to keep up on the sales, but I know there are some I'm missing. If you spot a back-to-school sale that seems really great, please post it so that we can all save money and get what we need for our kids (whether you're a teacher or not!)

What I've found so far:

Target (until Saturday) has boxes of crayons for only a quarter and has their hall passes/name tags/desk plates/dry-erase schedules/etc. all in their dollar section. They also have great plastic bins and trays for $2.50 as well.

I saw for next week that Staples will have bottled glue for a penny starting Sunday and going until Wednesday.

I know it's early, but I'd love to get the best deals this summer.

    I will most certainly keep and eye out but it just sucks big ones that you have to spend your own money on stuff for your students.

    If we keep receipts, we get reimbursed for $150 of our spending between August 1 and January 1. First year teachers spend a LOT more than that...even on my 5th year I spend more than that by at least double.

    Having a 14 year old son who has been in public school since prek I can tell you that $1400 does not go far when you have a class of 30 kids, especially in the lower grades. Also when you factor in schools where the median income is low, you wind up spending more because many parents can't donate supplies. I personally think there is too much focus on politics in the Board of Ed and the teachers and kids really do suffer over it.

    to look at it another way, in the case of every project on the website below:

    1. The teacher requested funding from the principal, then
    2. The teacher was denied, then
    3. The teacher decided to beg on a website

    That money from the DOE goes towards things like text books, overhead projectors, computers, etc.... things that aren't "Consumed" by the kids.

    ...but when you have 17 bulletin boards to cover and decorate, 30 kids to supply crayons/glue/scissors/paint/paper/etc. to... and at my school we even get to supply our own copy paper! ...it adds up fast. The average American school teachers spends $448 each year on supplies. ( http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=95922&page=1 )
    ...I don't recall doctors or dentists or lawyers being asked to spend their own income on their instruments or paper. yah!

    when i attended school my parents bought me crayons/glue, not the sniffing kind/paint/paper and some etcs.
    what pissed me off was, i had to buy my own gun and it had to have the school colors.,

    Why only 7%? 20,000.00 PER KID, PER YEAR. Say 30 kids in a classroom.... where the heck does all that money go? Union pockets .

    It's ironic that this op-ed piece mentions increased healthcare costs as an excessive expense.

    I'm going to put the number of people who are anti-teachers' union, such as this author and eggcream, yet pro health care reform, at roughly 5%.

    New Deals since it's Sunday!

    Now at Office Max:
    - kid-safe scissors are 20cents each (limit 3)
    - Sharpies are 25cents each
    - 25pack of erasers are 50cents

    Now at Staples through Wednesday::
    - Ream of Copy Paper for 1cent! (limit 2)
    - 8pack of black pens for 1cent (with $5 purchase)
    - 6pack of highlighters for 25cents

    Now at Target:
    - composition notebooks are 50cents each (colored fronts, no limit)
    - crayons are again 25cents
    - colored pencils are 88cents
    - kid-safe scissors are 2 pairs for $1.40
    - plastic bins for crayons/markers/glue/etc. are $2.50
