dance class for kids

Hi, I just moved into the area, and I'm looking for dance classes for my 4 year old son. Could anyone recommend a studio within a couple of miles that has classes for kids? I'm interested in west african, hip-hop, capoiera, or break dancing types of dance.

thanks!

  • The introductory creative dance class downtown at Mark Morris is affordable, appropriate and wonderful. My son is going into his third year there and it is great. Professional studio, company member teachers and a live piano player.

  • hmm, that looks like a good place. What is the music like in the creative dance class? My son told me he wants to do dance as long as the music is "rockin'".
  • There is a class at the Reformed Church on Seventh across from the Key Food.
  • A friend of mine runs a program out of PS 113 on the weekends. Creative Outlet has a cultural arts program which teaches a variety of classes. Classes are taught by company members and program graduates. Many of his "kids" have gone on to dance both in competitive high school programs as well as professionally.

My son took part in one of the Creative Outlet programs at his school from 1st-4th grade and he loved it.
  • It's a live piano player, not really 'rock' but appropriate for kids to dance to.
