Dinner

No kids tonight for the first time in almost a year! Any local dinner suggestions for the wife and I? Have lived around here for like 8 years and used to go out very often, (remember going to the place in the location that is now Cheryl's Global Soul, so it really has been a while) but started having kids 4+ yrs ago, so go out without them maybe just a few times a year, and usually to the city. I know that there are a ton of new options, particularly along Vanderbilt and maybe Washington. Crown Heights is fine too!

Anyone want to throw something out? Like, in the next 45 minutes?

  • Cheryls on Underhill at St Johns

  • How about James? It's over on Carlton but really nice atmosphere and good food. Be prepared to wait for a table. My go-to place when I'm not game for a wait is Le Gamin.

  • Cheryl's is good, but its been around a while and since we're (or at least, we were) original regulars at Sepia, I've definitely had a lot of Cheryl's. Hoping to try something new.

  • If you want to stay in the neighborhood, Aliseo, James, Franny's. You'll have to wait for the last two. I've only been to Flatbush Farm (Flatbush and St. Mark) once, but I had a great meal.

  • So, where did you go? How was it?

  • We went to The Vanderbilt. It was tasty, kinda dig the small plate options. But the service was a bit slow. Not too surprising, we showed up for dinner during primetime - 8:00 pm on a Saturday, so I shouldn't complain.

Followed by hanging out in a friend's apt. who we haven't seen in a while, then making our way to our former living room, Sepia, around 1:am (after the newbie crowd had dissipated). Was a nice, relaxing night.

Slept in till about 11 on Sunday... heavenly! First time we were able to stay in bed on a weekend past 6 or 7:am in at least a year. Then went to The Spot for brunch before picking up the brood at my mother's in Rockaway.

Oh, thanks for the suggestions all! We actually went to James first, then Flatbush Farm, but the waits were too long. Next time.
