Male German Shepherd Mix Alone on Prospect Place — Brooklynian

Male German Shepherd Mix Alone on Prospect Place

Around 7:50 a.m. there was a male German Shepherd mix, alone, trotting down Prospect Place. He came from Prospect and Underhill, walked down Prospect Place, and made a left onto Vanderbilt. When I got to the corner of Vanderbilt I couldn't see him anymore, so I think there's a decent chance he made a right onto St. Mark's.

He seemed friendly (I was with my dog, as was one other person) and didn't show any signs of aggression. He wasn't wearing tags.

He's fairly large, and his coloring is black and brown.

  • Correction: He walked down Prospect, made a right onto Vanderbilt, and then, I suspect, a right onto St. Mark's.
  • I saw him getting a latte at Milk Bar.
  • Subject: Lost dog

Saw him too - he was lying down in the front yard of a house on the N side of Prospect, mid-block. Big dog, but seems friendly and scared. Tried looking on lost pet sites, but didn't find anything...
  • If someone sees this dog, please grab him/her.

In turn, I will pick him up from you by 7:30, and post him/her on the various lost pet boards.
  • He's in the front yard of 291 prospect - wish I could get him but I can't, will be headed out soon...
  • Has anyone gotten this dog yet? I don't have a leash or anything but I will try to get him. I just don't know what to do with him when I get him.
  • he would be yours until I came to get him at 7 PM.
  • I have four cats in my apt so it's not possible to bring him home. Hopefully someone with backyard access can snatch him up.
  • yup. loezoeypiper, this mission does not have to be yours.

I predict said pooch will be snagged by someone walking their own dog, and will be put up on Fido etc
  • I found a backyard to put it in and walked down Prospect Place to Vanderbilt but I didn't see the dog and the yard in front of 291 Prospect Place was empty. Someone hopefully was able to help him. I had to at least try to help. The poor dog!
  • yup, I predict s/he is fine.
  • Someone found a male german sheperd mix in Brooklyn Heights, the dog was obviously mistreated (had a ripped ear and was malnourished). I'm wondering if it could be the same dog. Can anyone who saw the dog give any more details? Could you tell if the dog was neutered?
  • I don't think the dog I saw was malnourished... seemed a normal weight, definitely not scrawny. Can't recall a torn ear and wasn't close enough to tell if it'd been fixed.

It was a medium-large dog (not Great Dane sized) maybe 70 or 75 lbs and didn't look particularly German Shepherd-like to me. Short black coat, didn't have lowered rear like GS and smaller ears. Also more of a round face/head, shorter snout than GS. Color was mostly black, had some brown around it's eyes and muzzle.

    Hope that helps...

    J

  • Sorry for the late reply, didn't get an email that there was a response. Thanks for the detailed description, I'm going to pass it on to the guy who's fostering the dog.

  • An Akita mix was picked up this evening on 7th Ave near Flatbush, according to FIDO. Kinda sounds like the same dog. Now, to find the owner...or a foster.

  • O wait a sec, this is an old thread. Sorry...

  • I saw a picture of the Akita that was found. I bet that it was the same dog. The rescuer says that he seems to have been outside for a while. But he is getting vetted and will be in search of his forever home.
