Ali's Laundromat?

I've heard from my dry cleaner at Happy Cleaner's that Ali's (St. Johns and Washington) has closed forever. Anyone else hear the same?

    Over a month ago, I went in to do my laundry and Leroy, the owner, said none of the dryers were working. Something about the gas being cut off. He hoped it would be fixed soon. It was open sporatically for a little while after that (with no working dryers), then closed for good. I never heard anything more about what happened.

    I hope he's able to reopen. Leroy is a nice guy and that laundromat has been around for a long time. Sad to see it closed.

    I loved that guy! I am kinda heartbroken that they're gone.

    I found the place almost 3 years ago, cuz someone on this board recommended it, and I'd been unhappy with 2 other places that are closer to me.

    So it's been 3 years that I've happily lugged my stuff for many blocks for Ali's (Leroy's) amazing drop off service. Always fast, clean, nice, inexpensive. Always cheered me up to see him and his fab smile and great memory for laundry bags.

    I'd like to post a huge sign on the shuttered front: Come Back Leroy!

    Anyone with me? I'd never really do it alone.

    And now where to go for laundry?

    I just ran into Leroy yesterday morning... they are open again! Right now, it's for drop off only, but he hopes to have it completely open again soon. My boyfriend and I were so psyched to see the place open.

    ....on the awning that says Ali's Laundromat, there seems to be a temporary sign attached on top of where it said Ali.

    It says "Maad".

    ...perhaps a new owner or management is involved.
