Snow Plowing on Prospect Place

Snow plowing this year _sucks_. I've been through all the other big blizzards the city's had, and the streets were plowed much much sooner. I wonder why this year is different. The news didn't really have anything to say about it, other than the fact that a few cars are abandoned and some plows are stuck behind them. But that's no different from other years when the roads _were_ plowed. Hmm.

Yeah I agree, I've been through a lot of snow here and this one really feels like the ball has been dropped. And why the DOT commish didn't declare a snow emergency is a mystery to me. I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone after the clean-up is finished.

These are what I see as the problems with this snowstorm
1) Despite what the Mayor and the Sanitation Commissioner are saying, street cleaning for primary roads (bus routes) has not occurred. Instead streets have been cleaned based upon some sort of twisted priority (so for example EP which no longer has any buses running on it has been plowed regularly since Monday and St John's which is a bus route has not been plowed at all)
2) It does not appear that plows were sent out early enough, nor in large enough contingents to make a dent in the snow even on major roads
3) The city/MTA should have temporarily hired folks to hand shovel out bus stops, cross walks, etc. This hasn't happened.
4) Declare a snow emergency already.
5) The state needed to make sure that the MTA had the necessary resources to keep commuter rails and outdoor subway lines running.
6)Fine and discipline employees that abandon city equipment on the streets. If your plow stops or your bus gets stuck its the managers job to get someone else out to provide assistance, not tell people to lock up equipment and walk away.
This is why I should be Mayor (although I lack the mutton chops or the past experience as a hooker necessary to run for office these days).

I'm not sure which would be easier to gain. ...clearly neither would be worth it.

I just created a crowdsourcing map for snow removal. How does this look?

park place finally got plowed today (wednesday).

Wednesday 9pm, 3 days after the storm Prospect Place BTW Grand and Classon still has not seen a plow....
neighbors just helped an ambulance back out of the street after only getting halfway down before getting stuck. -
I think anyone who was ill and needed an ambulance which could not reach them or the hospital should sue Bloomberg personally. It's a travesty that this has happened in the greatest city in the world.

That is precisely what seems to have happened, people taking ill and not being able to get an ambulance:
http://gothamist.com/2010/12/29/tragic_tales_of_too-late_emergency.phpAt a news conference yesterday all Bloomberg had to say was something to the effect of 'sometimes people die even if emergency services get to them on time ...'
