Netflix -you got it, what do you watch?
..... Plus the price just went up as our X-mas gift from Netflix. Kinda lame.
Anyways, this has me thinking that as a member for about 6 years or so, I need to take advantage of the watch instantly more and fill up my DVD queue with movies.
What are you guys watching??
I just found "Anthony Bourdain:No Reservations" and A-Team are on instant

Tonight: Inland Empire. -
we watch TV shows with the disks and then bad movies on instant-watch. We just finished The Wire which was aaaaaawesome...for those 6 of you who hadn't seen it yet.
Also, we got our first disc of a movie last night and watched Hot Tub Time Machine. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. -
We've had Netflix for quite a while. I recently discovered 30 Rock which I had never watched on regular TV. I'm almost caught up to the current season. We signed up for Hulu Plus @ $7.99 a month on our Roku which give us access to the current season of hundreds of TV shows. And the movie selection is quite extensive as well. So, we've replaced our $90 DirecTV bill with a $20 Netflix bill and we're very happy with the selection. I made a TV antenna, so we get all the off the air signals free and in HD. -
On the recommendation of Carny and BigGuy, we just started watching Louie, season 1.
I've got about 100 movies in queue for Watch Instantly, the trouble is that about 95 are in the, "eh, if I can't find anything else to watch..." category. Netflix is really making a push to become a primarily online content provider, but some of the movies that they've been adding make me question the sanity and taste of some of the people calling the shots. -
Thanks Whyfi, Louie is now in the bin to watch!
A guilty pleasure for me and Papi Chulo is the 70s show Rockford Files. Dude, it's good! The "cold case" of its day. Plus I get to see lots of vintage cars (which restoring them was a side hobby of Papi and me for a while) -
The Human Centipede is streaming. It's a heart-warming story about a boy and his dog. Watch it with the entire family.
I'm also finally getting around to watching the Battlestar Galactica series from a few years back (available for streaming). Still on the first season, and really enjoying it.
I'm also catching old episodes of Arrested Development that I somehow missed or have forgotten, and Current Wife is looking forward to catching Damages after only seeing a couple of episodes a year or so ago. -
Many seasons of "Top Gear" -
Agree with Whyfi, the instant watch selection is overloaded with crap and the site navigation/search sucks too. I can usually find something using instantwatcher.com instead of Netflix itself; love that it can sort by which movies are expiring soon, which seems like such a no-brainer... We should demand Netflix build in smart search for that extra buck a month!
Recently watched Ip Man and that was pretty good despite being a dubbed version. Also watched the two Stieg Larson movies on instant--the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl that Played with Fire. I haven't read the books but the movies were entertaining, the first more so than the second.

Yes, it's great for bad movies. I don't feel like it was a waste when I don't have to mail the dvd back and wait for something else.
Good tv shows on instant play:
IT Crowd
30 Rock
The Office
This American Life
Dr. Who
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Louie (b/c my dvr seemed to refuse to record it for me!)
Penn & Teller's Bullshit
Dexter
Weeds
Parks & Recreation
Some movies I watched and wouldn't have gotten on dvd:
Penelope
Ballet Shoes
Gigantic (loved this movie) -
They should put Mad Men on instant. Anybody know if there's a way to watch old seasons without getting the DVD's?

You can purchase on iTunes and maybe Amazon digital, but not sure how those prices compare to the DVD's. I will say that we got rid of cable, but purchased the season pass of Mad Men. With each episode you get a 2-5 minute "behind the scenes" video, which has interviews with the cast and writer/producer about that particular episode. -
IT Crowd is on my list now too.
I should add that Black Books is on instant and is so great! -
SpongBob Squarepants Seasons 1,2 &3 . (Instant)Fat Actress (LOVE Kirstie Alley) (Instant)
That's So Raven Seasons 1,2,3,&4 (Instant)
Man v. Food Seasons 1,2,&3 (Instant)

Watched Iron Man 2, it was fun/good but not amazing.
Getting XMen Wolverine movie, next.
Saw the first episode of Louie (instant) I like the comedian, but I don't like kids shows so I'm on the fence on it.I wish Neflix would do more new releases on instant.
Has anyone looked into the Blockbuster deal? I saw a comercial where they said they get their new releases 28 days earlier then Netflix.
-
Wait, Louie a kids' show? If you've only seen the flashback episode to when he was a kid, they aren't all like that. Well, they are all awkward and dark, but not from the perspective of a kid.
-
^^ yeah, I need to actually watch a full season. His comedy performance is on instant:http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Louis-C.K.-Chewed-Up/70108425?trkid=438403#height1549
That was hilarious!
@Em26, Squidbillies (dvd) was so funny in a totally weird and wrong way. What else from Adult Swim are you liking recently?
-
From the Adult Swim lineup I like: Family Guy, Robot Chicken, , King of The Hill and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
-
Just watched a couple of episodes of 24 on instant. I was cooking while watching so it didn't get my complete attention but I'm going to watch more.
-
Finally rented from the local video store, "Get Reel Video," the movie Machete.
The Netflix release date wasn't until FEBRUARY! That's just absurd. They need to get their new releases listed and available when they actually go to video. I don't understand the delay.Anyways, fun movie, Don Johnson has a great role and Cheech Marin is still a badass. Lindsay Lohan plays herself (a drug addled ho with an enabling mother) pretty funny, just don't expect fine cinema.
What else should I add to my queue?
-
An Education, starring Carey Mulligan and including Emma Thompson in a small but important role.
A good coming-of-age film.

Netflix has agreements with several studios in place: in return for releasing a movie 28 days after it's released in stores, that studio will allow Netflix to stream a significantly larger number of their movies and newer releases on-line. It's actually a really smart business move for Netflix.
-
Why isn't Star Wars on watch instantly!!!!!
-
Nearing the end of Season 4 of the Wire. Where the hell has Jimmy McNulty gone? He has like 10 seconds of screen time in each episode.
-
I don't get Netflix because first, I am not a big movie fan, and second, because there are plenty of movies available for free online. For example,
www.youtube.com
www.hulu.com
I love freebies and these sites will give you plenty of free viewing.
Say, a question for all ~ how was ''V For Vendetta'' received in Brooklyn? Does this movie have many fans there? What are your views on it?
For those who haven't seen it, here it is for free:

If you're looking for a dystopian action flick, it's fine. It's (obviously) more comic-bookish, not as gritty as something like "Children of Men."
-
Children of Men ~ OK. I will look for it. Thanx.
-
Just saw the Illusionist.
Very beautiful, touching........ and DEPRESSING! But worth it. -
I've gone through all of the seasons available for Weeds and Dexter...
Available through netflix, but not on Watch Instantly, I recently wacthed Let Me In, based on the Swedish Let the Right One In. Good flick.
-
Oh, another small-ish movie that I liked - It's Kind if a Funny Story. It's a nice, understated (but not boring) flick. Based in Brooklyn. Oh, and surprisingly, it shows that Zach Galifianakis can act - he plays a mental patient, yet it's the straightest role that I've seen him in.
Howdy, Stranger!
