no snow, lots of garbage
so i guess the city learned its lesson. we've had about an inch of snow tonight and a snow plow came down our block around 10 pm to dust it off. meanwhile, today (tuesday, 1/11) was garbage pickup day and, at least on park place, uncollected garbage still lines the street for blocks. (the paper recyling was picked up the morning, but nothing else.) is the only way the city can clean up snow at night by not picking up garbage during the day?

revised: lots of snow, and lots of plowing, but the garbage was never picked up and still lines the streets. according to similar complaints posted on the brian lehrer show home page, this seems to be the case in midwood, bed-stuy and gowanus as well. bloomberg fixed it i guess.

Either the garbage gets picked up or the plows must be attached to the garbage trucks in preparation to plowing, oh, and one more option - taxes go way up so we can buy an entirely separate fleet to plow when it snows, and those plows can sit around and do nothing for the other 350 day of the year. Which would you recommend?

Its the middle of winter so trash doesn't stink. I say clean the streets then pick up the trash (although I might have to kiss my garbage person if the come and get the recycling after three weeks of no pick up)

Garbage pickup was suspended along with alternate side parking. You can get updates on this email list for alternate side parking, it's pretty handy.

i realize this is old news now, but our garbage usually gets picked up early in the morning, with all the garbage and recycling on our street usually gone by 10 am. the snow didn't start until after 8 pm. i'm not sure why we have to choose between plowing and garbage collection except that bloomberg petulantly overreacted in the face of criticism.
