Rally this Saturday Against Changes at P.S. 9
NYC Council Member Letitia James, along with parents, students and public officials rally against the DOE proposed co-locations of charter school at P.S. 9. Protest this Saturday, January 29th at 1 pm at Duryea Church.
Last Month, the DOE announced that it was planning the phase-out of M.S. 571, the small middle school that shares the building and many facilities with P.S. 9., in order to replace it with the Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School. P.S. 9 parents and elected officials oppose this change, arguing that the growing enrollment of both P.S. 9 and the Brooklyn East Charter School put the two schools on a collision course for classroom space and will harm the learning environment for students. More information can be found at the school's parent-teacher association's blog: http://ps9pta.blogspot.com/
WHEN: Saturday, January 29, at 1:00 PM
WHERE: Duryea Presbyterian Church - 362 Sterling Place (corner of Underhill Avenue), basement entrance

I find it interesting how usually you are so in support of charter schools invading others schools when the demographics are reversed but now all of a sudden its a big uproar. Hmmmm.....

What do you mean by this comment?
-
anyone know if the new apartment buildings that are be built on the Atlantic Yard's site will be part of PS 9 zoned district?
....this potential influx of students would seem like the best argument for needing the entire school.

Hmmmm.....If you're referring to me, I should make it clear that I've been consistently against charter schools. I've been involved in Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, which has put on many forums on the subject.
If you feel strongly about it, I invite you to joint our new club, Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform.

Don't pay nofair any mind - if you have any doubts, take a look at his post history.

Dont pay whinefry any mind. Any doubts look at its post history. There is a lot of towing the party line here. Tow the line or get shit on.

Nothing to do with a party line (because yeah, cyclists have overwhelming mainstream support in NYC ) - I actually like good discussion, but you haven't yet been able to demonstrate that any of your arguments are rational. Try supporting your thoughts instead of just flinging baseless accusations. I don't think that you have it in you, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

It just seems like many of you have issues with people who have different opinions than you. I read this board for a long time before I decided to sign up so I have seen you do it to many others as well.

Back to the thread topic, why should the charter school kids be denied a quality education?
