Kimchi Taco Truck
I see a Kimchi Taco Truck parked on Washington between Park and Sterling. It isn't open for business, but it looks like the owners (whom I recognize from their photo here http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/18/off-the-menu-on-the-road-kimchi-taco/) are loading equipment into the old Kitchen for Hire building.
I have no information, but maybe they'll be using the space to prep or cook some of their food? Anyone have any ideas or knowledge?
I watched them park about 20 minutes ago, so this is breaking news! (to me, at least)

Is this the location "near GAP" mentioned in Grubstreet? http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2011/01/first_look_at_the_kimchi_taco.html

Hot damn@!
PH is getting all the food lovin'!
-
My dog and I looked in and saw an Asian guy moving things around the kitchen, as well as the truck mentioned by ghostinthemachine.
...we then continued our walk.
Pure speculation: As a result of having an intact kitchen with an existing certificate of occupancy, this place could open quickly.

this place sounds awesome.
-
fuckin' awesome. i should refrain from salivating until there's some confirmation but all signs point to yes.
-
Some seriously good news!

Sites elsewhere, tomorrow at least. Apparently we havent arrived.

The aforementioned man remains on site. Since yesterday, he has hung a photo of an Asian ship on the wall.
Something is happening.
While you people wait on line at Tom's, I'm craving kimchi tacos.

Ships? Kimchi?

Mothers of sailors from the Navy’s First Fleet make kimchi to be shipped to the Cheonghae anti-piracy unit operating in waters off Somalia, in Donghae, Gangwon Province, Wednesday. The third contingent of the unit will head for the piracy-ridden littorals today for rotation of troops there.

Their website says it will be called "Kimchi Grill." Awesome!
-
Woo Hoo!!!
-
Not only are we getting new take out place, but ---as could be inferred from inpixel's post--- we are getting one that may be opposed to Somalian pirates!
Those korean take out places that support Somalian pirates are just wrong.
wrong.
wrong.
wrong.I'm glad we are getting a good one.

As might be expected given his history, Cartman has clearly chosen the wrong side.
Clearly, we need a leader to organize those who bravely stand against the pirates. (edited post mamacita's post)
Given the upcoming media blitz by Cartman, harmonized singing seems to be the logical, justified and necessary method of retribution.
I believe the customers of Sepia to be well qualified for the task at hand.

Mama- that happens to me every time I take the Lexington Ave line during rush hour. ...damn people won't go to the center of the car
-
Update: When I walked by, I saw TWO men moving about the small space.
As one looks inside, one sees:
a. a beverage cooler off to the left.
b. a counter from which to order food
c. approximately three stools off the right.Presumably, one could sit on the stools while:
1. eating several kimchi tacos2. commending the owners on their choice of boat paintings and condemnation of somalian pirates/privates.

not sure if I should go there

I went to a Dunkin Donuts twice in South Korea last spring and some of their donuts are NUTS. We went on a morning just to try all of the weird things. Those ring-things they have made out of what look like a bunch of munchkins are called "chewies" they come in a bazillion flavors and then are super super chewy - it is a weird experience because just picking one up you expect the texture of a donut, but it's not at all.
Also, the coffee situation in Korea drove me crazy. They don't have drip coffee, only Americano -- which is like a cup of expresso basically. Blech. But they do love to hang out in coffee houses. For hours.
-
Do they have the Free Wifi situation in the coffee houses as well?
As far as my Korean BBQ/Kimchi fix, i'm partial towards Seoul Garden (a.k.a Natural Tofu)in Koreatown

What does one drink with a kimchi taco?
...will people eating kimchi tacos soon be sighted inside Washington Commons?
-
As to the wifi:
Korea is one of the most wired countries in the world, so I would assume -- but most people go to talk for hours. As to the drinks:
Crappy beer and soju is my guess. I've never seen that many drunk people 24-hours per day in my life. Business men on the hiking trails in their suits, wasted, at 3pm. Women in business suits sleeping on the sidewalk, wasted. Everything with lots and lots of alcohol. -
xlizellx,
If Washington Avenue becomes a drunken wasteland, will it be logicial to blame the sudden availability of Kimchi? Will the folks from the new Kimchi Grill succeed, where the hard working folks at Love Liquor have failed?
Will Love Liquor's famous Capt Morgan be outdone by a sexy green newcomer, the mighty Kimchi Warrior?

....stay tuned.

I just talked to one of the owners outside the new place. I think it was the chef. Anyway, he was very friendly. When I asked him if they'd be opening soon, he said they were trying, but (motioning towards taco truck), they are busy with two trucks right now.
But besides that, the place really looks like it's coming together, and they were loading in tons of stuff.Might I also mention that I am extremely excited about this, even though I'm vegetarian and probably won't be able to eat anything on the menu anyway?? I'm just excited for new and promising places.
-
I assume you did not feel comfortable asking them about their stance on Somalian pirates, or asking them whether they plan to put a version of the Kimchi Warrior out front to compete with Capt Morgan. ...perhaps you merely did not have time.
BTW, Mrs. Whynot is a vegetarian, and thinks there will be some tofu or plain kimchi options.
-
Those topics slipped my mind!
As for vegetarian options, I sure hope Mrs. Whynot is right! They do have a veggie option on their menu, but what I am REALLY interested in is if they make a version of kimchi without the fish products. Because that would be awesome.
