Compost Collection at GAP Greenmarket

Are you able to pickup compost from GrowNYC also?
Will there be any of the shredded evergreen (Christmas trees) chips available for compost, separately?Where is the GAP Greenmarket?
-
I'm not sure I understand this. Why would people want to get rid of their compost? I can see why people would want to pick up compost. But why go to the trouble of making compost if you're not going to use it?
I suppose this could be for environmentally conscious people who don't garden and don't really have a use for compost. But that's a lot of work. And transporting compost isn't really easy - you can't just throw in a backpack.
bklyn50 - The GAP Greenmarket is the farmer's market in Grand Army Plaza every Saturday.

Thank you, Piano.

Hello Saram!
Below is the link for the Prospect Hghts Community Farm, we accept veggies and once the season starts the hours will be expanded. For now we are open on Saturdays from 1-3. The compost is used at the farm and in neighborhood tree pits.
Happy Scrapping!

Is there anywhere nearby that takes kitchen scraps on Sundays?
-
Yes... See above! The Prospect Heights Community Farm will begin collecting scraps on Sundays once they begin their regular hours, probably sometime mid April
-
This is great news. I don't currently compost, but I may now. It's also a great excuse/reason to make sure I get to the green market every Saturday!
-
Roux, that's great that the PH Community Farm will be open on Sundays again soon. I brought my compost there last summer, so I'm glad it'll be back.
(And to anyone who's considering composting their vegetable scraps, I tell you what: it's a lot easier to do and less messy/smelly than I thought it would be, and having a few places and days to drop it off nearby makes it even easier.)

PH Community Farm begins their regualr garden hours this weekend (if enough people sign up and the weather is good). Here are the hours - TUESDAY: 4-6pm, WEDNESDAY: 4-6pm, THURSDAY: 5-7pm, FRIDAY: 5-7pm, SATURDAY: 12-6pm, SUNDAY: 12-6pm

I don't like throwing away compost friendly scraps. However, when I did keep a composter in my backyard it attracted rats. The heat and insulation, as well the depth of the scraps/compost provided a great home. And, they'd probably nibble on some of the veggie matter. So,I would bring my scraps to this place, no problemo.
