looking for PH apartment
Greetings, and my apologies if I am violating etiquette for this board. My girlfriend and I are moving from Milwaukee to Brooklyn and are hoping to find an apartment in Prospect Heights (or maybe Fort Greene or Clinton Hill). Our budget will allow for up to $1,600/mo for rent and ideally we'd find a 1.5- or 2-bedroom place. I've looked on Craigslist and talked with some sleazy brokers and will be in town next week to look.
So if you're looking for a tenant or know someone who is, please let me know. About us: We don't smoke and have a friendly cat named Truman. I'll be working for Newsday, so we'll be getting at least one regular paycheck. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Looking forward to moving to the neighborhood!

I'm sorry, sir, but Brooklyn is at maximum Midwesterner density... I mean, we could make room for Minnesotans, but Wisconsinites?!

It might be helpful if you're more specific with your time frame - the rental market moves really fast here, compared to the midwest. Most landlords expect that you'll be moving in pretty much immediately if you're looking... is that the case?
Preemptive welcome to Brooklyn! -
I start Sept. 18, so I can take an apartment beginning 9/1, 9/15 or 10/1. We'll be there from Aug 22-29 looking.
And for what its worth, I'm not a complete rube Midwesterner. I went to grad school in New York before a four-year sojourn in cheeseland. -
Armchair? Your place going to be ready?!
Reid - Cool. Hey, if you can manage to source out some cheese curds for us, we'd be very grateful and I'm sure we'd bend over backwards to help you even more! (It's the State Fair time of the year, and some of us are going through withdrawal
) I was going to have my cousin hunt some down, but he and his wife went and had a baby instead... -
I was just at State Fair on Saturday! And rest assured, anyone who sucessfully helps us land an apartment will have their choice of fine Wisconsin cheese products from the famous Mars Cheese Castle.

its been ready for months now. my contractor has other jobs told me he'll come back in 2 weeks to finish the facade and basment. other wise they could be rented out. just no gas meters. well i got 1 gas meter.

they were able to put in one yesterday. they could of put the rest yesterday. but they have stupid rules. requiring 1 job per meter. so i'm gonna waste this week and next waiting for meters. -

If AW doesn't come through, I suggest avoiding any property owned by Arnold Rosenshein. Trust me.
-
well he never called or pm me lol.

I got my job and first apartment from craigslist, using the no-fee apartment ads. I believe $1600 is perfectly doable for a 1.5 or 2 br in Prospect Heights. We've been paying a whole lot less for our 1 br, but my gf got the apt a few years ago when things were cheaper.

iz pm him
. he should still keep looking at criags list.
here is another site

reviving thread due to it's reference to Arnold Rosenshein.
Just looked, well almost looked, at a place owned by him. Initial signs were bad. Agent showing it can't figure out which door to use and tenant is not answering phone. While she's trying to figure it out, I'm noticing the nasty carpet and general disrepair of the hallway/stairwell. Agent figures out the door and the tenant says there's no way we're coming in. Something along the lines of "the landlord agreed to 24 hours notice, I'm not letting you in". Apparently and absent roommate had said to stop on by...
Not good signs so far, in my opinion. Wet carpet in hall, tenant seeming pissed when referring to landlord...
Any thoughts on AR?
