958 Nostrand — Brooklynian

958 Nostrand

b/t Sullivan and Montgomery

Does anyone know what will be going up here? It's the site of the old car wash and was leveled a couple of months back. I've been meaning to look into it for quite a while...

  • I live near by and decided to look into this a bit. I found a couple of different permit filings which seem to indicate that an apartment building is going up.

Looks like the architech is KARL FISCHER.

I don't go by there often so I am not sure how much work is being done.
  • 96 units? That's a pretty large building for this area. How big is the lot?
  • 20,200 SF
  • Dept. of Buildings also shows filings for parking and a gym on site. sounds like a nice building.
  • I saw a giant crane at this site yesterday and decided to snoop around again to see what is happening. Here is the building that is going up.

  • That crane is huge! You'd think they were putting up a twenty story tower...
  • I can't believe that rendering shows the same site - for starters, Nostrand is a steep hill at this point...

And what is that space with benches? Where Associated currently is?
  • That may be the building, but the rendering is definitely not Nostrand. Note the TWO-WAY traffic in the picture
  • Their giant crane broke during the wind storm on Saturday... so they brought in an even bigger crane to take it apart. Mildly amusing.
  • There's definitely been some progress on this place. We published a short piece the other day about a recent press release that described some of the amenities that are going to be in this place:

Each apartment will have a video intercom system that allows tenants to view who is requesting entrance. The building will also feature a concierge for additional security. Not only does the video intercom display who is ringing the bell, but it will also view the gym and the laundry room. This helps a tenant to avoid carrying their laundry downstairs only to find that there are no machines available. Music and movies can be enjoyed through built-in surround sound speakers that are placed in the ceiling. Another great feature of this building will be the dedicated home theater screening room.

Refer to the press release for the full list of amenities.

Out of curiosity, has there been a residential project of this scale (meaning the number of units) in Crown Heights in recent history? I just don't seem to be hearing much about it....

  • The largest single project I can think of in the last 10 years is the renovation of the old Jewish/Interfaith hospital buildings, located between Classon and Franklin.

The final building is being completed now, and I think that the renovation resulted in over 1000 apartments.

  • Are the apartmetns for sale or rental? Seems to be a big mystery. Nothing on Google about it.

  • @whynot - the Jewish Hospital ... of course!

@Capt. Planet - it seems that they are rentals. The Dept. of Buildings' website says they are not condos and nothing online indicates that they are condos.

  • According to the architect they are going to be condos, but i suspect they are actually rentals. Also, here is an updated pic that looks to be more in line with what's actually being built. I'm interested to know what will occupy the commercial space on the bottom floor.

  • Im glad they are DOING SOMETHING with that spot. Praise God yo. Looks tight.

  • Fast forward to August 2013....

Tenants for the now completed, ground floor retail spaces are now being sought: http://www.masseyknakal.com/listings/detail.aspx?lst=20318
