Vanderbilt Closings Construction
The Forest Floor is closing. Anyone know what's happening with that space?
And what about the construction near WINK beauty salon?

drekantiques.Hope it's not another oil or tutoring place.

I'm so sorry to hear about The Forest Floor. Is it closed already or do you know when it will close? Are they changing locations or shutting down shop altogether?
Is Wink still open? Last I went by it was closed up on a day it seemed like it should have been open.
A couple weeks ago I spoke with the guys who have the bodega on the corner of St. Marks and Vanderbilt. They are moving, to Classon and Fulton I think.
I'm really sad about The Forest Floor though. I really liked the owners and the fun, eclectic options in the store.

Hmm. When I went by Wink on Saturday morning it was open.

Most nail salons are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Sad that I know this, oh well.
Forest Floor is closing for good, I think. Today was the last day.
I wonder if the bodega will take those handpainted signs. Love them.
Is that Kumon ever open? Seems a bit weird to me.
If you could have anything you want in these spots what would it be?

I thought the same thing, but maybe they don't have hours during summer vacation. They must have spent a lot of money to prep that space, and then to keep it closed almost immediately after opening doesn't seem right. Seems like they're missing a golden opportunity to suck the money out of the parents for summer "enrichment" education.

we are pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to food on vanderbilt. I would love to see a good diner. I have had this fantasy for a while now of buying "the usual" and creating an exact replica of that diner Dizzy's in park slope on 6th ave and 9th street.
I also know they are everywhere but we could also use a real bank on the block. like a mini chase or god forbid a citibank.
A BBQ place would be awesome as well. as it is now i think the closest one is in fort greene.
sometimes I really miss the place that used to be on flatbush that is now a matress store. -
The building is owned by the same nice guys who own the Met Food across the street. Last I heard thy were saying they wanted to try and get in something like a hardware store or a pharmacy and definitely not another bar.

I think Vanderbilt Ave could support a housewares store.
It would be mostly kitchen stuff, a little more upscale than Target, but a much more pleasant shopping experience.
Similar to the Tarzian Houseware place on 7th Ave.
...I'd avoid hardware, out of fears that I would not achieve enough product turnover to support Vanderbilt Ave rents (or, in this case, opportunity cost).

I think an upscale kitchen store would be great, although I really like a Cook's Companion on Atlantic. Good selection of products and the woman who runs it is very nice. As far as a hardware store goes, I think that the location is too close to Pintchik.
I would loooooove a butcher shop, but an apothecary-like pharmacy, ala Zitomers, to complement King's would also be nice.
What's wrong with The Usual?

On a more serious note, have you tried Fish & Sip over on the PS side of Flatbush? I went there thinking that it would be Middle Eastern, which is was, but I left thinking that it was a slightly upscale version of diner food, with a Middle-Eastern twist. In other words, pretty good. Staff was nice, too.

Tom's and Dizzy's are in a whole other galaxy when it comes to diner food.
I have given the usual a few chances over the years and have never been happy.I eat out a lot really only cooking on the weekends. Im also a creature of habit so this is my rotation for prospect heights take out.
1. Giedo-sushi plater- $13
2. Amorina - 2 slices with prosciutto and a root beer - $8
3. Eton - pork and beef dumpling rice plate or pulled pork rice plate $8
4. Maya taqueria - baby burrito with Guacamole $7on the weekends bagel form olde brooklyn bagel shop.
Lately Eton has been getting most of my money. there pulled pork is no joke.

Went last night. It was packed. I had a kale salad that was awesome and a vegetarian ramen bowl. My husband had an eggplant slider and the same ramen. The atmosphere was really nice. No alcohol, but it was still a nice dinner crowd.
The kale salad and eggplant slider were both amazing. Really really good. The ramen was good - but nothing out of this world for the price ($12). It seemed weird that the non-vegetarian options (of which there are many) have a lot more stuff in them (besides the meat) - mustard greens, kimchi, etc... Ours had corn, a little cabbage, noodles, and an egg. It was good, but I had hoped for something more exciting I suppose.
Overall it was a nice dinner (And apparently you get $1 off a drink order at Woodwork if you tell them you ate there/are eating there that night) but it was over $40 with tip for 2 people to eat with no drinks so it isn't going to be on my constant rotation of restaurants.

If you are correct about Eton, I can't say I will miss it.
On the subject of Vanderbilt, I thought the new bagel place would eventually become less crowded. It seems to still be packed whenever I go on the weekend.
