Our cat is missing from 309 Park Place

Our cat Nigel has been missing from 309 Park Place for the past week. He

liked to roam the back yards but always came back to eat and hang out in

the house. He is a main coone long-haired mix (see pic) and is quite

nervous. If anyone has seen him please contact Meredith-646 610 9245 or

Dara-718 753 4914.

We miss him terribly

Thank you

Dara & Meredith

  • I'm sure you are probably already doing this, but make up some fliers and alert all your neighbors. Post at the bus stops, subway entrances, markets and pet stores. Also check with animal control, Petfinder, and do the whole Craiglist thing.

If he is not microchipped and he has no collar, it may be some person has him thinking he's a stray or abandoned.

  • Sure hope you find Nigel. He looks like a pure breed to me, I had rescued 10 of them and they are expensive.Usually shy away from strangers, loud sounds and very smart. You should look around dark/dimmed areas in the yard or neighborhood, around boxes, trash cans, air ducts, behind stairways, parking lots etc.. Will probably come out at night so keep calling out! Never let your pets out, it's too dangerous and they can feed off poisons. Follow Mamacitas advice and check with the ASPCA 212 876-7700.

  • Check the city shelter maybe someone dropped him off. If he's been missing for a week you better go there right away - they only have a 3 day stray hold! Make sure you go there and check yourself - make them show you the sick ward too to check he is there - dont trust them to check for you!

  • I'll keep an eye out for him. Hope he's found.

  • I would highly recommend that you post more signs. I walked along Park Place this evening and barely saw any. When another cat recently went missing they plastered the area with signs and he was found. Be sure to mention a "reward" on your sign. Money talks and people will make an effort if they know that something is in it for them. Post him on Craig's List, visit the Brooklyn AC&C often, call local vet clinics, etc. Chances are he is right around your home. If you want to borrow a humane trap and try to trap him then please PM me. He is a beautiful cat so someone may have taken him in but chances are he is still out there. Hardly anyone takes in cats in this neighborhood without posting or trying to find the owners. The best times to look is at dusk and early, early in the morning when everything is calm.

Is he microchipped? If he goes to the shelter then the microchip will return him to you. But again, if he is nervous he is out there. But you must plaster the area with signs. I only saw two and walked all around that area just now. It's really not a safe area to let your cat out. Lots of feral cats and disease in this area.

Good luck and please let us know how we can help!

  • I can't say this enough. Talk to your neighbors! If he likes to wander then they probably know him around the block. Also ask your neighbors to CHECK THEIR BASEMENTS. Sounds crazy, but I've heard more then a few stories of lost cats taking shelter in a basement (maybe the hatch was open or not securely closed.. etc) and getting trapped by accident in there. With the rain and everything, he may just be taking shelter nearby.
