Owl and Thistle General Store on Franklin Ave — Brooklynian

Owl and Thistle General Store on Franklin Ave

I'm surprised no post about this new business yet. The Owl and Thistle General Store opened on Franklin between Sterling and Park about 3 weeks ago. I went in there today after hearing about it from a friend. They have an interesting assortment of gifts and greeting cards, clothing and jewelry and more. It's seems like a nice addition to the Franklin Ave and the neighborhood.

  • I stopped in the other day. It fits my need of a greeting-card store on Franklin (bought a birthday card there on Friday) but I don't know what else I'd buy there. Although the fact that they have cards leads me to stop in often I bet - I tend to forget to buy cards until the veeeery last minute...so it should be good. And at a price range between $2.50 and $5.00 they actually are pretty comparable, price-wise, to the cards I was buying at the Rite Aid on my way home from work ($1.99 to $5.49).

I liked some necklaces, but they were too pricey -- and the other stuff was mostly kid-centered. Hopefully they keep expanding as a nice shop on the avenue. I wish them the best!

  • Ok, now the important thing: has anyone tried some of those locally-made pickles they're hawking?

  • What locally made pickles? McClures?

  • Yeah. I don't know anything about them, except from O&T's own promotional posts.

  • McClures are awesome!

  • Ahh -- then yes, they have them. So does Bklyn Larder on Flatbush.

  • Ahh, Brooklyn Larder has many things... but it's not really in Crown Heights. I'm excited to see the block blow up. Chavellas opened last night and there's the new vintage shop and About Time which has been there forever. An oyster bar opening soon also, I hear.

  • McClures are the best! Try the hot and spicy-- it's also the best brine for doing pickleback shots.
