I have gotten a response from CM Sarah Gonzalez' office requesting more info about the place. All I could provide was the address and the phone number from the old menu when it was a restaurant. If anyone knows anything further, i.e. who the owner is, or if they know someone who lives on that block, please contact her office. The person who wrote to me is Miguel Hernandez, email [email protected]

Scarlett, if you go on a field trip, would you please bring back pictures of the drawings of hookers? I know that would make me very happy.

Oh good - Brownstoner did my homework for me.

Those are "prostitute looking" women? C'mon. Those caricatures are right out of an early 1960's fashion magazine. Strictly lounge lizard stuff. You'll see more skin and provocative imagery on family sitcoms. Ho's?! More like hostesses. PG at that.

I was responding to Scarlett. She wanted photos, and I was stating "yup, Brownstoner has gotten some for you"
I agree with you, the advertising says to me that this is a place you could meet a woman who is showing her figure, but such images and attire can not be reliably associated with prostitution.
Case in point: The Soca dancers who performed in the recent West Indian Day Parade; many are employed as nurses and city employees.
Conclusion, a woman's attire is sometimes a lousy way to determine their occupation. If you make the wrong assumption, you may get slapped.

I'm just responding to the Prostitute Looking Women thing in the first post, not you specifically W31. It doesn't mean I'm judging the book by its cover. But, if you (the OP) bring up a subject as part of your argument, be prepared to have it scrutinized and be very prepared to back it up.

I just hope everyone is very careful in deciding whether they should offer the women that go to this club money.
....such a decision could end very badly.

speaking from experience hey

I'm so disappointed in the prostitute looking women. You see ladies less covered up on the streets in NYC on a Friday or Saturday.
Does it seem like they will offer breakfast and lunch? Not being a strip club frequenter I wouldn't know, but is that usual? Or is the sign offering breakfast just a devious front for illicit night time activities?

The awning is old. Tate -- at the CB meeting, we'll suggest that the owner of this business relocate it to Crown Heights, where the residents will be welcoming to such an establishment.
-
If you don't read Spanish and you don't live in Sunset Park you do not understand the kind of place this is.
-
Don't we have to wait to see if they do something illegal before we ban them?
-
Its nice for some folks to sit around and mock women who are concerned about a gentleman's club opening. Its even better when some of the posters don't have to LIVE around here or walk through the detritus, associated with these places. Im the OP and I KNOW that I specifically expressed concerns about the CLIENTELE that may be attracted to this type of place and the things that those clientele would do AFTER they left the establishment and went to their cars, or drunkenly walked home, but I guess no one actually READS anymore before they flame folks for judging, but who am I to judge those who judge my post without reading it.

Which do you think is my main concern? The fact that the club may or may not be legal, if the women that will work there are prostitutes OR the worry over the kind of clientele that will come to the place?
Hmm, I wonder which group I mentioned most during my post? Hmm ... the mysteries astound do they

There are lots of legal businesses and uses that have negative impacts on their local area: trash depots, porn shops, liquor stores all come readily to mind.
In an attempt to respect the rights of these places to exist, local residents are only given a limited amount of control. The real authority lays in the zoning code and the law.
If you are unable to prove that this new business is in violation of the law or the zoning code, you will find you are unable to get support from those who believe in the value of the established processes. This should not be confused with not believing such businesses are undesirable, or wanting such a business near us. If you find that the business violates the law, we can often be counted on as strong allies to get the city to enforce the laws.
If you find

illegal activity once it opens, I encourage you to involve the police, the Dept of Planning and the Dept of buildings.

I was in SP for work this afternoon so thought I would stop into 90 Grados for a drink. That stretch of 4th ave is way more commercial than down in PS, and yes there are schools and fast food places and hang outs for young kids, but there are also auto mechanics and seedy bodegas with dudes hanging around ogling every woman that walks by. I'm not saying I know the nabe just by walking around for an hour, but I will say I was ENTIRELY disappointed with 90 Grados from the outside. The neon ads for help are mostly gone save one. The drawings of the hostesses or whatever are actually pretty tame and nicely done, albeit completely straight out of the 80s. Sadly while the door was open and I peeked in, they weren't open yet. Overall, total let down.

Thanks for trying, Scarlett!

Are you a man or a woman?
-
I am a man, who posts as a dog.
Scarlett could be any sex, and posts as an alpaca.

If you give a mouse a cookie...
you probably are feeding a troll. -
I will keep that in mind. See you at the Planning Comission?
-
Just to clarify, I am attracted to men as well.
