Whoa ... illegal wolf dogs on the loose

An illegal wolf-dog hybrid was found roaming wild in a residential neighborhood in Brooklyn, authorities said Thursday.

Police found the approximately 3-year-old, 53-pound female wearing a collar and chain near Elton Street and Vandalia Avenue in East New York on Tuesday evening, according to Richard Gentles, spokesperson for New York Animal Care and Control.

"She's not a wild animal," Gentles told the New York Post. "Nobody's come forward to claim her," he added, noting that it is illegal to possess a wolf-dog hybrid in New York City.

    Poor wolf-mutt. It's so sad. Stupid humans breed these animals so they look wild and cool and sell them off to the highest bidder illegally. Once the heartless morons that purchase these puppies realize they are in fact half wild, not docile and social (like a domestic dog), and un-trainable, they abandon the dog. The animal suffers and is more then likely put to sleep by the Pound. Nasty stuff

    A friend found another article that said the city is supposedly planning to contact some wolf sanctuaries, which is where many of these hybrids end up, to see if one will take it.

    Also, the city shelters (not ASPCA, Humane society, etc.) are pretty scary places and pretty much every dog they photograph looks terrified in those cramped, loud quarters.

    There is a reason that the Department of Interior's US Fish and Wildlife Service has decided to support wolves roaming wild in the desolate west, as opposed to densely populated Brooklyn.

    Not so... The feds have removed gray wolves from the protection of the Endangered Species Act, so that they can be hunted, poisoned, and otherwise slaughtered by ranchers and others:

    I'd hardly call that "support".

    It seems I am not up to date on the latest wolf decisions.

    Maybe this wolf moved to Brooklyn, and put on a dog collar, because he knew of the upcoming hunt?

    While it seems it's aspirations of wandering Brooklyn have been thwarted, this story does seem to end somewhat well: It got a home in NJ.

    Every Christmas season, there seems to be a story about how some church was broken into and the burglars made off with all of the toys that were destined for under privileged children. Then, donations come from far and wide and replace the missing toys several fold, and everyone feels good.

    This year, I do not recall such a story.

    I think the "bad people breed wolf-dog, who then sell it to person who lets it loose in Brooklyn, putting it at risk of death ....only to have it find a forever home in NJ" story fits the bill nicely though.
