I come to this board daily because it is the only thing that keeps me from "accidently" looking at internet porn in the office and getting fired for it. This site is safer, though not quite as satisfying

Yes, very very far from here. In this recent thread is an artwork drawn from the perspective of someone exactly above the neighborhood in and around which these critters live, side-by-side with hundreds of thousands of people. In the early 80s after I left, they discovered an antivenin, and no one has died since. But in those days, adults who were bitten sometimes didn't survive, let alone kids (and they're aggressive and will bite right through clothes or even a fingernail given the chance). This was drummed into us from the cradle -- look before touching stuff that's lying around, leave this particular spider alone, call an adult -- and bites were very rare, and funnily enough so are arachnophobes in those parts. Know your enemy, I guess.

It's true, I don't remember anyone being particularly concerned about all the poisonous critters.
