OUR PRESIDENT PAYING HOMAGE TO A BRAVE AMERICAN

This effort at snarkasm falls a bit flat.

Gee, a little delicate aren't we.
I don't think it's snarky at all, It's a comment on the so called leader of the free world ,who has nothing better to do then call up a gay guy and tell him how brave he is, because he decide to tell the world he's gay.
Like I said who gives a shit.
What next, is Biden going to come out and claim he's hetro.
Don't let your sensitivities get the best of you. your probably on his must call list, so just sit by the phone and wait.

Its not that they are too delicate, its because you are too dense.
Let me break it down for you so you could try to understand.
The president has many responsibilities. Yes, he deals with world leaders and matters of international importance, but he also deals with national matters that concern us here in the United States.
Now perhaps you have heard about all the fuss on gay marriage and gay rights lately? Maybe its not your issue, maybe you feel it doesnt concern you because its not all about you. But it is news to others because they have this thing called empathy, which means that they can put themselves into another persons position and see things from their perspective. Well the NBA is a big sports company (National Basketball Association) that is traditionally very homophobic (that means they dont like fags). Its full of players that think that they are "real men" or what real men should be. (by the way, this applies to football and baseball and and all those other games) So when someone comes out to state that they are different from all the other guys, they open themselves up to all sorts of repercussions (look that word up in the dictionary), especially on a national stage.
So this person who comes out is potentially gonna have a lot to lose, but more importantly serve as a role model to many people who have had to hide who they are. Also, the African American community generally doesnt like the idea of homosexuality so many men live a secret life "on the down low" so they can keep up appearances and conform to somebodies idea of what a man is.
Are you keeping up with me? Is any of this sinking in?
So when the president, who is African American, calls this guy from the national basketball group who has just come out (and is probably a well known figure to millions of fans), he puts a stamp of legitimacy on homosexuality, and hopefully it makes other people think "Hey, if its okay with Obama maybe its not so bad."
And maybe if the president calls this guy to give him his support than other players will refrain from the before mentioned repercussions.
We all look forward to the day that people will be accepted for who they are and people will be able to accept the differences in other people. In the meantime, if you find some kind of news that is not important to you, try to figure out if it may be important to others. And if you cant do that then go on to the next story. You know that whole pope story was a non event for me but I didnt embarrass myself by posting that online!
Oh and the NBA guy was being real brave by coming out. And that is being a hero. Just like there are many ways to be a real man. Open your mind.

Your rather long winded on your defense of gays, but, I happen to feel if your gay , so what.
if thats your life style, which I didn't attack enjoy it, but I found it ridiculous that our President called a gay guy up and proclaimed him a hero,Like it or not thats my opinion.

I come to Brooklynian to learn about events, concerns, etc. in Brooklyn. I come her to commune with my fellow Brooklynites, and to generally feel good about my community.
Hamilton, clearly you have a need to spew hate on and provoke your neighbors. What's up with that? Is that what makes you feel good? How sad. Why don't you get out on a beautiful day like today and contribute to the good of the community? Or go make a friend.

PSBKLYN
I hate to disappoint you but I do have friends and do contribute to my community in many ways.
my post wasn't spewing hate as you stated, it simply questions why the president gets involved in some guy outing himself.
If you like reading about bagel stores, pizza parlors , coffee shops or cute kittens go right ahead, just skip my postings.
after all we are entitled to freedom of expression.
enjoy your day

i broke it down for you in that "long winded" way so that you, who doesn't seem to have very much sensitivity or discernment could try to figure it out. But alas, thats not going to happen. maybe your mommy cares about your opinion, but not anybody else.
Mark Twain said its best to let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and prove it. -

Mommie jokes are so insensitive.
I'm very hurt and surprised someone so delicate would stoop that low, are you in the 4th grade..
By the way, you just met the requirements necessary to qualify for Twain's statement.Try again.

Collins is not or has never been a star, his career totals are a joke, 3+ points and 3+ rebounds a game,
has been on eight different teams and his contract is coming to an end.
Had been engaged to a woman for 8 years and neglected to mention his sexual preference, kinda odd isn't it.So he goes to Sports Illustrated tells a story and hopes to capitalize on his hidden life style.
Along comes Obama, gives him a call and now get ready to see him on Oprah, NBC,CBS and get a book deal.
The guys a fraud and when I posted the article I assumed those on Brooklynian would be aware of his less the stella career and realize he only came out for financial gains.
It's not his gayness I was doing a satire on it's his greed, -
what do his NBA stats have to do with his coming out? Who gets rich by coming out?
This satire thing really isnt working out for you. This thread and the panhandler thing....hmmm -
Hamilton is making an important point, the president should have more important things to do rather than getting involved in some soap opera social drama. The bottom line in our nation is that we are a free nation and freedom means you choose to live your life the way you want to (as long as it doesn't harm others). A gay life style is not a matter of politics, and the government should have nothing to do with marriage period - straight or gay! How is it even possible that the role of State to define what love is? It's a ludicrous notion, yet somehow I can't walk down the street without hearing a need for the government to get more involved in our personal lives: gay marriage and gay rights, yikes! Gay rights is nonsense. We all are equal and all we need to do is protect our civil rights. Segregating a portion of the population with special rights because they like sex with the same sex is pure nonsense. Segregation in any form is bad. We are all equal and need to promote freedom for all. This way, no matter what your into (as long as no one is harmed) we all can pursue our happiness. Government cannot legislate morality and it cannot define a bond of love between two people so get government out of our private lives and let them tend to our roads, keep an eye on weights and measure, uphold our civil liberties and maintain our common defense, that's it. The rest of it should be local matters settled by local communities. This way diversity will flourish. Promote freedom for all to make their own choices and don't separate gays from the rest of us. And Obama needs to get a grip. But I guess you can't expect that much from a con man liar.

This satire thing really isnt working out for you. This thread and the panhandler thing....hmmmLet me simplify this for you.
His points and rebound average have a lot to do with it , the fact that he was traded 8 times kinda highlights he was mediocre at best.
I think Stevie Wonder would've had better figures if he was in the NBA.
With his career coming to an end, he decides to tell the world he's on the down low and our president [ who is nothing more then a failed motivational speaker ] see's this as a photo opt, jumps in and , gives him a call to commend him on his so-called bravery .
I'm sure all those gold star Mothers who's sons and daughters gave there lives protecting us were deeply offended by his decision to glorify a ballplayer trying to capitalize on his sexual preference, that he even hid from his fiancee of eight years .
Whatta guy.
The money part, a book , probably a movie and countless appearances on the likes of oprah, the view and any other lame talk shows looking to boost their ratings.
To note ,The Panhandler thing was well received , so now you can find something else to hmmm on .
For the word dense, you don't have to look it up, just look in the mirror..MOD NOTE: Sounds like everyone here needs a cooling off period. Thread closed for now.
Howdy, Stranger!
