Lowry Triangle - smashed benches — Brooklynian

Lowry Triangle - smashed benches

This is kind of old news, but I noticed several of the benches in the Lowry Triangle park at Atlantic/Washington/Underhill were totally mangled sometime relatively recently (I guess it could have even been a few weeks ago--I was out of town). I was wondering if anyone knows what happened--I'm just curious, assuming someone drove into them but still kind of amazed by the extent of the damage.

  • One of those benches happened to be where a homeless man was sleeping at the time of the crash.

  • eeek.

    Paraderest-

Was this a two car collision, that resulted in one of the cars hitting the benches?

Or did the driver of the car hit just the benches because he was intoxicated and thus unable to choose?

  • That poor park has been mangled in the past three years. The 2011 tornado took out at least half the mature trees, and several benches. More damage in last summer's "derecho". Now this (seriously, like four concrete and wood benches were pulverized).

Lowry Triangle needs some love. Anyone know the best way to lobby Parks Dept or local government for some funds to replant trees, replace benches and generally fix the place up?

The north end of the Washington Ave retail strip - between St Marks and Atlantic - is post-apocalyptic. That triangle pocket park was a sole bright spot that now looks like Dresden.

Anyone interested in teaming up to look into this?

  • I'd talk with the Wash Ave Merchants Assn
