Morgan's BBQ
The BBQ place and Mac & Cheese spot on the corner of St. Marks and Flatbush open soon - possibly today. Last night I happened to walk by, sniffed around because it looked kind of open, and was invited in to enjoy a "friends and Family Night", which was more of a "Locals' Night".
The brisket was outstanding - fatty, moist, and delicious. The only downside was the (temporary) lack of a liquor license.
No Mac & Cheese samples, but I've eaten several times at the outpost in the Barclay Center and it's no joke. These two places, "The Comfort Food Corner", should be a welcome addition to the 'hood.

Was the brisket plain or did it come sauced (and how was the sauce -sweet? tart? hot? smokey?)
Can't wait to try the place!

I was specifically asked to only use the sauce AFTER I had tried the food. In other words, the sauce was there for suckers. Everything came "plain" and was pretty salty. The pulled pork was also juicy and almost overly salty. The Andouille sausage was top notch and I had a pork rib that fell off the bone. The sides were pretty good - refried beans, a green bean casserole (grean beans with crispy flakes), and good cole slaw.
The space is also nice, with a bunch of tables onthe sidewalk, a large bar area with a secondary bar that faces the street and some tables in the back by the kitchen. There was one tv tucked away in a corner over the bar with ESPN on. So, maybe watch some sports there in a pinch.
The bartender told me they're working on the liquor license, and dind't know if it would be BYOB until that happened. In the meantime they seemed to just have sweet tea and water to drink.

morgan's tasting had
napkin-lickin brisket and
fall-off-the-bone ribs

Went late Saturday night. They was no wait, but they were out of all ribs and cornbread. Had the fatty brisket, turkey, mac and cheese, roasted corn, and sweet(ish) tea. My friend also had a baked sweet potato and collard greens. I'll second that everything was salty, and also peppery. Mamacita, I'd say the sauce was a thinner sauce that was slightly sweet and a little bit smoky. The mac was the best thing on my tray. The brisket was good, but I'd rank them behind Fette Sau, Hill Country, and Dinosaur.
