Don Imus Fired For Racist Remarks

If only Sharpton would get off his high horse and take a hike. That man infuriates me. Worse case scenario, Imus deserved to be suspended indefinitely. Firing seemed to take it a little too far. I feel that the media caved.

I think that had this been the only incident firing wouldn't have been justified. But given his history of making 1) clearly racist remarks and 2)remarks targeted only to bring down otherwise positive folks, he got what he deserved. Clearly he hasn't learned his lesson, so maybe spending his time sitting in his upper west side penthouse contemplating how it went all wrong will enlighten him to the fact that this type of behavior is unacceptable.
As for Sharpton, I'm no fan but as I told someone today "Even a broken clock is right twice a day". I can dislike the messenger, but he's right that Imus was dead-ass wrong here.
As for the media, they are the ultimate fickle audience. They follow, they don't lead. -
homeowner I agree.
Justified. Imus is/was an old fart trying to be cool using hip insulting slang to degrade ebony females. I heard he has had politicians on his show. He was a media jock. People hear his messages. And this is how he represents himself?
Justified all the way. -
he should have been taken off the air a long time ago. why does everyone blame Sharpton for Imus' firing? Sharpton never suggested he should be fired and neither did the media. the advertisers and CBS execs made that decision. this was not just a "racial" issue, it was clearly misogyny at it's best.

AND... he's back. He reportedly "settled" for $20 million from CBS (he had just signed a five year $40 million contract) after threatening to sure for $120 million. And he is reportedly in negotiations with WABC to get back on the radio... :afro:

Yea he'll be back, but his public status is tainted. Oh well, like he cares. Thus is the world.

Drudge is reporting that he will be on Citadel/WABC on December 3rd.
THE RESURRECTION OF IMUS: RETURNS ON NATION'S TOP TALK STATION
Mon Oct 15 2007 07:52:30 ET
**Exclusive**
In a dramatic and dazzling career rebound, controversial radio host Don Imus has secured a deal returning him to the airwaves on December 3 -- this time on the nation's most listened to talk station, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!
"Imus In The Morning" will make a high-impact resurrection on WABC in New York City, top sources reveal.
"We'll have him on a standard 40-second delay," a studio source explains. "Don is rested, humbled, and ready for war!"
Specific terms of the deal will not be released, but the host, who was fired by CBS and MSNBC after making disparaging comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, has inked a eight-figure, multiyear contract with WABC parent company, CITADEL BROADCASTING.
But who will his GUESTS be?
Will senators come on? Presidential candidates? Tim Russert? Anna Quindlen? Who's the guest now? WILL THE ELITES TURN THEIR BACK ON HIM?
MORE
The stunning comeback is a defeat for those who protested and picketed Imus earlier this year.
Imus is said to be particularly incensed by Senator Hillary Clinton's "shameless exploitation" of the Rutgers situation.
The senator, who Imus has called "satan" and the "devil", traveled to Rutgers in April to praise the women's basketball team for its response to the controversy. In a campaign email, Hillary called Imus's comments "small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism."
"Hillary, prepare to meet your maker!" a source close to the host joked early Monday.
Station executives are still tinkering with the new schedule at WABC, which will likely see current morning jock Curtis Sliwa paired with late morning's John Gambling.
Imus will be interviewed by Barbara Walters for a coming special.

... in other words Imus is saying, "HA I CAN MAKE RACIST REMARKS PUBLICLY AND STILL BE ON THE AIR!"
that's how the world works; if you got $$$ & you're popular, you could do an OJ (OJ Simpson)
