REMINDER: TODAY, Meet and Greet Charles Barron in Boerum Hil
Reminder, please come out and meet Charles Barron at NY Perks on Smith Street today from 6 to 7:30 pm. Thanks and bring a neighbor. Kate
Hi Neighbors, I live on Wyckoff Street near Smith. I
am hosting a Meet and Greet for Charles Barron, a City
Council Member who is running to defeat incumbent Ed
Towns in the 10th Congressional district.
Please stop by NY Perks on Tuesday, September 5th
between 6 and 7:30 PM. NY Perks is located at 193
Smith Street, between Warren and Baltic. Council
Member Barron will be there to introduce himself and
answer questions.
I've know Charles Barron for the past three years. He
is extremely principled and always willing to fight
for those principles. He has been a consistent critic
of the Atlantic Yards project, as well as the war in
Iraq. See his website barronforcongress.com for more
information.
Please forward this to all your neighbors. (Many
people in Ft. Greene are also in the 10th District, so
invite them too.) If you are not sure if you're in
his district, here is a map:

I am sure that when you meet Charles, you will feel
there is no candidate more suitable to represent us in
Congress than him. Please come find out for yourself
at NY Perks on September 5th between 6 and 7:30 PM.
Thank you.

The connection to Mugabe gives me pause, to say the least.

I"ve met Charles Barron several times - I respect his courage and commitment on the civil rights front.
But his cuddling up to Mugabe was simply stupid.
As the NYT reported, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have issued reports about the Mugabe regime, citing torture and detention, repression of judicial independence and journalistic freedom, the intimidation of political opponents. The Mugabe policy of seizing white-owned land has, say critics, been violent and disastrous, hurting the economy, contributing to starvation.
Is the wikipedia entry correct? For the most part, yes in my opinion. But is it fair and impartial? Not on your life, it's as slanted as a Fox News broadcast. -

He certainly owns it -- never backed away from his support of Mugabe when asked about it during this race. As much as I think that incident was an outrage, I'm more interested in what electeds can and can't do for NYC. International politics from a very local pol takes it too off-track for me . . . -
I met him several times. He is a good man. I don't know about this Mugabe thing. But if Mugabe is some kind of monster and he did not pull away from the guy publicly then that tells me that he is a stand up guy as well. Not to be intimated by bad press. That's an important quality for a leader to have
