Easing Sore Muscles — Brooklynian

Easing Sore Muscles

Spring is here and weekend warriors are gearing up. I must be getting older because last week I woke up on Sunday sore as hell... had a particularly active Saturday and paid the price.

Wanted to open up a topic here about curing sore muscles. First, here are some things that I've tried and or heard about:

1. Ice bath/ice shower -- holy crap I love this. This should be everybodies step one. I work out 2 or 3 times a week and try to always take a 2 -4 minute ice shower immdiately after. It really eases any soreness, you can actually feel your circulation improving.

2. Warm Epsom Salt bath - I've done it a few times. Can't tell if it works.

3. Baking Soda - or Alka Seltizer - you drink it. I can't seem to exactly confirm this, however, I'm guessing that the highly alkaline baking sode neutralizes the latic acid in the blood. Any comments on that?

4. Apple Cider Vinegar bath -- anyone, anyone.

5. Glutamine or Gluscomine -- an amino acid... any comments?

6 . Any other home remedies..?

Comments

  • Plenty of stretching of the relevant achy muscles and a good old massage always helps me.
  • THIS IS NO BIG DEAL!! GET OVER IT!!! DRUNK PEOPLE BEING SORE IS NOT NEWS.

I bet having FD carry all those heavy groceries up your stairs would probably help ease those nasty muscle pains. Also, arnica works. You're old, it comes with the territory.
  • A 1/2 cup of baking soda with a 1/2 cup of sea salt works well. You can use 1 cup of each if you like.

Also, one of the best baths I have ever taken for sore muscles is BathTherapy's Sport (the powder, not the liquid) bath soak. Its like taking a bath in icy hot and salt. Make sure its the blue colored "sport" version.
  • Nothing but nothing beats a massage. A woman's touch preferably, a Panasonic all out massage chair is a close second. Hot whirlpools/Jacuzzi's, if you have access also do the trick.
