Foster home desperately needed for rescued cat!

I am hoping against all odds to find a foster home for a rescued cat I've been caring for the last couple months.

Stella is a very special girl and she needs an equally special person who can give her lots of time, space, patience, and love.

We rescued her during a terrible rainstorm in April, soaked, scared, hungry and pregnant. She gave birth to 3 beautiful kittens in early May, and they are now ready to be adopted. As sweet and adorable as they are, they will be able to find homes quickly. Stella, however, may not be that lucky.

Although she is not quite feral, she is shy and fearful of people. She has made some wonderful progress over the last couple of months and is actually a very sweet girl with lots of potential to "come around" to trusting people--it's just going to take awhile. Unfortunately, due to a variety of reasons including travel plans and my landlords, I am not able to keep her - in fact, I must find another place for her quickly - by July 18th!

I really believe Stella will eventually warm up to people - in the 3 months she has been with me she has become confident and trusting enough to come sit near me while she eats. Often she sits and blinks at me, or mews at me.

Most shelters are already overcrowded and cannot take her since she is not as readily "adoptable" as other cats. If I can't find another foster home for her, I will have to have her spayed and return her outside, which is something I really don't want to do. Aside from concerns about food sources and freezing temperatures in winter, I live on a busy street in Brooklyn with lots of car traffic, there are tons of raccoons behind our house in Greenwood Cemetery, 2 car lots on the corner keeping a regular supply of antifreeze available to all outdoor animals, and a "watchdog" who has actually killed a few cats on my block. I've also been told that a few years ago one of our neighbors put poisoned food out and killed a whole colony of cats. Needless to say, I'm not eager to return her to that life and the risks it involves.

Given how far Stella has already come, I think she would continue to make progress. She just needs some patience and time and stability - someone who understands that she will come to trust you, but in her own time. She really is a sweet girl!

Stella has a vet exam scheduled and will be spayed, dewormed, and tested for FIV/FeLV before going into another foster home. I don't think a home with small children would be a good idea for her, but I think she would do well with other cats. Although she has been separated from my own cats, she seems extremely interested in them.

Someone with previous experience socializing cats would be wonderful, but if it's new to you and you are interested and want to help Stella, I'd be happy to share everything I know.
