Next mayor Marty — Brooklynian

Next mayor Marty

edited November -1 in Brooklyn Politics
I would like to see Marty Markowitz be the next mayor of New York. He seems to care and he is always available, and I think that would be good for New York. Can we make this happen?

  • I don't know that much about him. I just like calling him Marty Mark and the Funky Bunch
  • Did you hear that our police commissioner Ray Kelly is putting out feelers about a mayoral run? There were telephone polls about him (posing match-ups v possible democrats) reported somewhere (Politiker blog?) yesterday.
Marty Mark and the Funky Bunch
    hee
His Fiorello act can be pretty winning, but outside of the borough cheerleading and public weight loss, I don't know a thing about the man. My general impression is that borough president's offices are pretty powerless outside of publicity and a smallish budget so who knows...

And I must admit, I haven't been paying a bit of attention to who is making noises in the direction of a mayoral run.

I actually loathe Marty, so I am curious about your reasons for thinking he would be a good mayor.

He seems to care. So? What does this even mean? Couldn't everyone who runs for mayor be said to "care"? I care very much about New York City. Maybe I should be mayor.

He is always available. This is very true. This is a guy who, as they say, would show up for the opening of an envelope. Does that make him a good candidate for mayor or just crazed for publicity? He was a "surprise" speaker at my daughter's middle school graduation -- and he got booed. Then we got to listen to Marty talk about himself for twenty minutes, what a treat. :x
  • a blog entry about Marty getting campaign cash from real estate moguls

  • I didn't vote for Marty for Boro President and certainly wouldn't vote for him as mayor. I might vote for Rose, though. Please keep us posted about your political ambitions.
  • I will never vote for him.
    I can't stand him.
He shouldn't be borough president- he should be the mascot.
His new disaster is the lights on the parachute jump in coney island.
He approved the lights they have now and now he thinks they are too arty and not bright enough to make coney island a destination. (Like the neon lights are what bring people to Vegas) He now wants to spend $1.5 million to get a new option drawn up and I don't know if that would even pay for it.
I really will never vote for him
  • Subject: Dimwit

Coney Island needs more life guards
and restaurants where families can go to , not lighting..

Markowitz is real estate pimp that should be on infomercials selling juicers and vegetable slicers

If he becomes Mayor will we be stuck buying miniature furniture for Gracie Mansion.
  • I wouldn't mind seeing James make a run for it. My guess is Markowitz would get the mod from Bloomberg and Koch. He was Bloomie's best cheerleader and Koch has a record of endorsing schmucks.
  • marty is a clown. ugh.
  • Yeah, I tend to think I'll refrain from voting for Bruce Ratner's girlfriend.
  • Yeah, Marty seems like a personable enough guy, but he's never done anything to try to bring any transparency, deliberation or public voice into the Atlantic Yards fiasco. Those few council members (CB 6) who opposed him were yanked, just like that. They weren't even told by him personally, but when their terms were up, they were pulled.

And they were HIS appointees. Tells you something, right?

Atlantic Yards is a disaster, and Marty is the enabler.
