Stranger Peering Into Fire Escapes

Has anyone else experienced this?

I got home tonight and noticed by the mailboxes that a tenant put up a sign that she saw someone peeping into her place through the fire escape in the back of the building during the early AM hours.

There was a followup note by another tenant that the same thing happened to them, and comments written on both by at least 5-7 other tenants that this too has happened to them during this week.

The two main writers did write that they called 911 to report this, cause when they saw the person and screamed, he ran up the fire escape to the roof.

I had a friend who lived in a building on that block a few years ago, and the same thing happened to her. She called the cops, but they never found the guy, only his hat, and she happened to be moving a few weeks later.

sounds scary. too bad they can't use a blood hound and find the guy and beat him silly afterwards.

i've only had raccoons peering in --- well, and the occasional teen-aged neighbor!

i suggest you invest in paint ball gun. it would be hard for those wood be teenager peeping toms after losing their sight.

as for the raccoons invite them in for food be a good nature neighbor

We have them and most of our neighbors in the building do as well.
Call the cops when you see them again. 4 months ago our building had
a peeping tom and a couple break-in's. Calling the police worked. The caught him.

The back yards on St.John's and Underhill are all connected and so are the roof tops. This is a problem. These guys know the paths from building to building and are able to move freely. Putting up fences on roofs, gates and motion sensor lights keeps the perverts away.

This explains the low flying NYPD helicopter in the neighborhood around 7 or so last night. It looked like the were flying around looking for someone.

I'm not trying to belittle the crime or fright it caused but ... helicopters are teh expensive! all you need to fight this one is a cop or two on a roof pretending to watch boxing on the tv smuggled up there (sorry, someone on my block is always on the roof watching boxing - not my roof, tho, I defend my roof rights) and drinking a faux corona to bust this loser.

Nah, the copter was peeking in windows!

I had a guy outside my window once, I said, "Hey!" and he said, "Er, excuse me. Have a good night sir," and got the hell down and away right quick. Which was somewhat offensive, I mean am I _really_ that bad in my boxers???

I've seen people jet up and down my fire escape but never peer in. Even the raccoons don't come by anymore

. There was once lady who use to check me out with from her window. Could'a been the ol' Black snake that kept her mesmerized, but I don't know...

This is one of the reasons I'm glad my building is on the corner and isn't connected to the 2 buildings on the left and in back. That and the rash of burglaries on Union Street by someone using the roofs. When I moved here my mom asked about getting bars on the windows by the fire escapes. Did she think someone was going to fly up there? And I have a much better deterrent, a 65lb pitbull who would be at the window in a flash barking her fool head off. No one needs to know she would probably run away if they actually got in! Shhh, nobody tell. :-$

I've heard it said that American Pit Bull Terriers are renowned for being possessed by Satan, and that all godfearing folk should stand up against this threat to our values and way of life. Is that fair?

If you are expecting an alarm system would stop a peeping Tom.. forget that idea. But, if you are truly worried about someone getting in to your home while you are in it (or not) you should call ADT.. one of the largest alarm installation companies and they will quote you a price on a system..

An owner in our building put up motion sensors with lights on her back deck. Anything or anyone moving around out there and flood lights come on. She said it made the "Peepers" run like hell.
