Never thought I'd see the day, but they packed up and moved away.

THIS will be an interesting space to watch...

  • Good riddance, they didn't even have biscuits! Biscuits!

  • i wish they one day bring back the (insert dead presidents name) friend chickens places. crown fried chicken is cool as the other chicken joints that it sprouted from.
  • Sucks that CF closed. Those guys who ran the place were nice dudes. Compared to other Kennedy and Crown Frieds I have been to, it was definitely the best. Clean, and relatively good food that I believe was Halal. As a partner in an establishment in Brooklyn, I know how stressful it is to run a business, and how hard emotionally and financially it is to have the spectre of losing a lease looming. Hope those guys do well in the future.

    THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD!

Clearly they had to move because of the rents that are rocketing out of control on Washington Ave.

That, or it was the Biscuits!

Maybe I'll put a KFC in the the hood and fill the Fried Chicken void.

    :P
  • Kennedy Fried Chicken and Popeye's would both rock your Kentucky ass!
  • no! this is horrible! teh tragic!
  • I really don't know how I feel about the place closing... One on hand, it was a fixture and it's weird that it's gone. On the other hand, I don't think that I set foot in there more than twice in four years, and seeing chicken bones littering the nearby sidewalks wasn't one of the more endearing aspects of the area.

In any event, I am interested in what time will bring for that very prominent space - I feel like the corners really set the tone for the block, and on that block we'll have the Thai place on the north end and ????? on the south - I think that whatever goes in will have quite an impact on the types of businesses that fill the several vacancies in between.
  • The chicken bones aren't going anywhere. Every bulletproof Chinese place sells fried chicken.

I'm sure you'll manage to adjust to whatever latest pretentious business sprouts up there, somehow.

You are right that I am able to let go of the past and move on, unlike others.

That a "pretentious" business will sprout up is hardly a foregone conclusion - there are tales of RE agents and LLs that are resistant to anything but dollar stores and salons, which is why I've stated that it'll be interesting to see what happens.
  • I passed it on the bus late night a few times this week and I thought the closed was due to the time. I'm pretty sad about this. What am I going to eat at 1am without having to go all the way to Flatbush?!?
  • Tavern on Dean? Not the same thing, of course, but there's still some late eats closer than Flatbush.

I hear they're gonna open a Chickpea in its place
  • Washington street btw prospect and st mark's needs a kick on the pants. there's four + empty storefronts available right now.
  • those landlords should just sell. i don't know why they letting those stores sit empty for so long.
  • I heard they were going to bring back Chess King, and tht the flagship was going to be on Washington Avenue...

    Actually, no I didn't. :lol::lol::lol::wink:

    Chickpea? Not familiar...

...but it does raise an interesting question - do the anti-pretentious make an effort to keep track of what IS pretentious? 'Cause that seems kinda...

    ...pretentious.

Nah, I'd be TOO down with that - one of the few things keeping me from being a fat, fat man is the 5 blocks between WC and I.

While your point is duly noted, there is no honor in shutting down a fried chicken stop in the hood. Places like that (as well as the empty storefronts and high crime levels) are the only places keeping PH from turning into LAPS (lame ass Park Slope)...
  • what would actually probably make me happiest would be an ethiopian restaurant. I'd be in there at least twice a month.
  • caseopele wrote: Good riddance, they didn't even have biscuits! Biscuits!
Well, they did have those roll-type thingys--The ones that look like a tiny loaf of unsliced white bread.

I always ate there while I did my laundry. Greasy food and clean clothes...ah the memories.
  • This is truly a tragedy. Where are we going to get fish'n'chips for $4 instead of $15 from now on?
  • well, we could go to sheep station. anyone want to watch rugby world cup next weekend? I'm not going to the ppv games cause I'm cheap like that but I'll totally go for the free games at 3ish.

There's a place on (I think) Fulton in Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy, which is walking distance but not exactly convenient. But if you want the cheap goods...

Take a car service - it'll only be $8-10 plus tip, round trip. :thumright:
  • my roommate texted me the sad news while I was on vacation for Labor Day. Hope they don't knock down the 2 story building for more condos and ruin my view.
  • I've just received word, the already existing cafe/coffee shops have reached their mussed-hair buddy-holly-glasses medium-size-t-shirt levis converse-all-star-wearing, all-day-sitting, macbook-staring, indie-rock-listening white guy capacity.

Crown Chicken's space has been claimed for a new venue in order to address this problem.

    Thank you. :rabbit:

False. I've never had any trouble finding a seat in the nearby shops. Maybe it's because my t-shirt is a large.
