Done With Joyce
I moved back to the neighborhood only to find Joyce had covered over its outlets and shortened its hours. I went the other day and found that my coffee was weak. Despite the fact that the baked goods can be tasty, I find them incredibly overpriced.
I understand that a bunch of laptops might not be the best ambiance in a coffee shop but the whole feeling of the place seemed colder. Where is a good place to study that's not the tea house? I used to frequent Muddy Waters but its wifi was unreliable and now I can barely tell if they are in business or not.

My advice to Felixe11, try the LIBRARY for studying.
We'll miss you at Joyce, but not the laptop. -

How long does a laptop battery charge last?

not long enough. -
I don't know about free electricity, but I can vouch that Joyce's hours suck.

I like Prospect Perk...free WI-FI too and a lot less people.

i agree too overpriced!

I'm not crazy about the prices at Joyce, but it's nice for a little treat. Honestly, I'm okay with their covering the outlets because every time I've ever gone in and wanted to sit down for a bit, every single table has been taken up by the laptop hordes, which is the case in almost every coffee shop in New York.
Maybe coffee and tea shops could compromise by having two seating sections -- one to make the laptop users happy, and one that's a laptop-free zone, so that the rest of us have a place to sit down for a change. -
i love to work on my laptop in cafes, but frankly, my battery lasts WAY longer than i have any business hogging a seat at a busy time for the cost of even an over-priced coffee and muffin.
not to mention -- why should the cafe owners be compelled to subsidize my electricity use, and at commercial rates to boot?
i don't get to joyce as often as i might if it were closer or cheaper, but i did thoroughly enjoy the "chocolate bite" (aka teensy cupcake) i had today. i don't begrudge their pricing, since i think the quality is unusually high, but the fact remains that it's out of my everyday budget. today i noticed many more tiny but cheaper options than in the past -- lots of things in the 75 cents to $2 range -- which seems like a great compromise. -
regardless of how i feel about joyce, they're sending a message: they don't want you in there with your laptop.
tea lounge, ct muffin, they have free wireless and plugs. and far comfier seats. -

Maybe with the lower electric bill their prices will go down

Aubrey (Audrey) my most favoritist of the girlies there said that they stopped giving out their free electricity when they realized that the laptop users were doubling their bill. You can't blame them. I like going to Joyce to meet friends or read the paper. If I wanna use my laptop I trek to gorilla or elsewhere. I'm happy that Joyce is laptop free for the most part. We need one of those!

there were still laptops hogging all the tables this morning at joyce --- but the treats were better than ever!!!

I had those "bites" yesterday. Pretty rockin.

I was there yesterday and the place was full with people at the tables with laptops. I had to wait for a seat while people who were not eating or drinking coffee lounged.
No wi-fi either.
