god, I fucking well wish. I hate having to trek to rock ctr every morning. -
Yeah, f the subway. I mean, I'm sure it's ridiculous for NYCers to complain about what is a relatively good mass transit system which makes getting to work pretty painless. But hey, it's the Bitch Generation.

Hmm. So where did _this_ come from? I fail to see how it could have honestly come from something posted in this thread. -
It just comes from me living here and despite the good option of the subway, not wanting to use it. I like not commuting but I'm sure people who drive to work or have to take a car, a bus, and a train all in the same trip where all I had to do was Q-it to Grand Central would be like, You got nothing to complain about.

when I lived in houston my commute was 3-5 minutes by car. (I lived in 'midtown' and worked 'downtown' - 1 stop on 59-N) in nyc, no matter what, my commute has always been somewhere between 40 mins. - 1 hour. I realize it's not that bad, but it's still annoying. and part of it is that my life has shifted a lot in the last few years to being more firmly brooklyn based. I don't WANT to be in manhattan. and most weekends I don't ever get on public transport - I walk wherever I'm going, because I'm staying in brooklyn. I feel like my daily subway commute is eating my soul. :? :?

OK, cool. Enjoy your commute (haha), that is great that you don't have to leave the comfort of your home. Just because there is a great transit system here doesn't mean that you have to use it!
My old commute last year really sucked. I actually got an article written up in the paper as an "extreme commuter". I had to go from Staten Island to Northern NJ daily. All transit in NYC goes through Manhattan, so it took between 3 and 5 hours each way. Some days I literally spent more time on trains, boats, subways and buses than actually at work. Now I do more like an hour and 45 minutes to three hours, depending, each way. It is a lot better, but still kind of blows.
Having said that, I have no problem with someone complaining about a forty minute subway ride or whatever. It isn't a contest, and the fact that my commute blows doesn't mean that I have any right to denigrate someone with a "better" commute than mine. Theirs can suck too, and we can commiserate. I love walking. It helps me keep my sanity. I often trade getting home a little earlier for getting off the subway a couple stops further and having a nice walk down Eastern Parkway home. -
Yeah, my commute is rolling over. Nice to watc squirrels chase each other outside my window that having some dude breathe on my neck on the 4 train.

sorry, i wasnt feeling well that morning. -
Very strange that I was actually thinking about this very thing just last night. I think it would be nice to live within walking distance of work, especially if it was in PH.
Sadly, I work in Times Square. -
i wish i had more brooklyn customers. right now i spend about 30% of my time in brooklyn, and other in manhattan.
parts of queens is sometimes done and rarely bronx or staten island. -

Hell yeah! I live AND work on Washington Ave -- less than 2 miles apart, and a 10 minute bike ride. Good thing too, since I work 12 hour days. Nothing beats rolling out of bed 30 mins before work and landing on the couch in my boxers 15 minutes after punching out. Not to mention almost eliminating waiting on subway platforms from my life altogether. Of course it's temporary, but still.. it's as glorious as it sounds. 8) -
I just started my new job on Monday, and I have the luxury of working many days from the "Park Slope Headquarters", complete with 2 cats working the room :-)
It's not all fun and games by a long shot, but it certainly beats commuting (although I'll have to do some of that and some travel too) -
I'm lucky enough to live and work in PH.

someday.
my favorite commute used to be greenpoint to LIC. bike, bus, G train, or co-workers with cars! sometimes i didn't even go to manhattan for months - the way i like it!BrookFetish wrote: Very strange that I was actually thinking about this very thing just last night. at least you don't live in times square, too! eeek!

I work mostly from home, and love it. I go into the company office in Times Square maybe one day a week and every time I come home thankful that I don't have to face those crowds of idiot tourists who stop, 4 abreast, in the middle of the sidewalk to gawk at the sights more often than that.
I worry about not getting out of the house enough, especially when it's cold, though....my thoughts can wander to negative places when I'm not up and out often enough. -
I loved my longer commute because it was the only time I got to actually read. Now my commute is 15 minutes shorter and I can barely finish a magazine article. (Two small children at home + full-time job = no time to read much anywhere else.)
-
I like driving, so it's cool. With no traffic, my commute is like 38 minutes almost exactly. And when there is, my Ipod is my only friend. You would think commuting from CH to BX would take forever, but thankfully all the suckers are coming south in the morning, and going north or off the road in the afternoon/at night. Plus, I work from 7 to 3-7.
-
I just switched from working mostly at home to commuting to Grand Central. I like my new job, but man do I miss running errands and doing laundry and stuff when most of y'all were out of the neighborhood. Not to mention twice-daily visits to Cheryl's. And my cats. And my pajamas.
-
I woke up fifteen minutes before I had to be at work this morning and still made it on time. The longest commute I've ever done in brooklyn was prospect heights to brooklyn heights. Right now I'm five minutes walk to the shop.
-
i live in park slope and work in fort greene, and while it's a great 30 minute walk/10 min bike ride now, i won't be so happy when its 15 degrees outside and i have to bundle up like the abominable snowman to make the trek. there are no good ways to get from my apt (near atlantic ave) to fort greene, which sucks.
but right now, with the weather being nice and leaves changing, i really really enjoy my commute. except that i miss the reading time as well. -
My wife just landed a new gig at the Botanic Garden, just a short walk from our place...I dream of not having to ride the subway...
-
I just got a job working in the Bx. 2-3 to Nevins then 4 to 125 st then the 6 to Parchester Avenue. It is about 1hour 20 minutes. I am trying to adjust, but I do not know how long I can do it. I have a pretty good job though.
